Asus’ 13in Zenbook comes very close to being the ultimate Ultrabook. It sports a nice design, solid aluminium build, superb connectivity, high-resolution screen, great keyboard and touchpad, class-leading audio and premium accessories such as the stylish sleeve – and all for under £1,000. Given this, its lack of keyboard backlighting can easily be overlooked. Unfortunately, its screen’s poor viewing angles are trickier to forgive, keeping the UX31 from a Recommended Award by a kitten’s whisker.

It sports a nice design, solid aluminium build, superb connectivity, high-resolution screen, great keyboard and touchpad, class-leading audio and premium accessories such as the stylish sleeve – and all for under £1,000. Given this, its lack of keyboard backlighting can easily be overlooked. Unfortunately, its screen’s poor viewing angles are trickier to forgive, keeping the UX31 from a Recommended Award by a kitten’s whisker.

We like the Asus Zenbook UX31 quite a bit. It's exquisitely thin, superbly light at 2.86 pounds, and it's gorgeous. The build quality is top notch--in fact it's one of the best made notebooks we've seen outside of Apple's store. The laptop is very fast and could work as a main machine if you're not a 3D gamer. For a 13" ultraportable it has a better than average selection of ports, and we love the HDMI and USB 3.0 ports in particular. Though most components are soldered onto the motherboard, we appreciate that it's not hard to open up the notebook to access components. We have no qualms with the keyboard though it's not our favorite, and we actually like the trackpad after updating the firmware and drivers. Lastly, the 1600 x 900 display really sets the Zenbook apart from the crowd and is more conducive to doing serious work on the go. Finally, there's a MacBook Air for Windows folks. That's not to say the Air isn't an excellent machine to run Windows, but the $200 price savings, Windows keyboard, HDMI and USB 3.0 combined with the higher resolution display are a good counter to the Air.

The Zenbook will only appeal to those that want a Windows ultraportable that looks like a MacBook Air and are willing to put up with the Zenbook's flaws to get one. While it's possible Ultrabooks from other manufacturers will do a better job, it'll be tough as the MacBook Air isn't just a collection of components but a result of tight integration between hardware and software. We'll have to wait and see.

However, while we can live with not having a backlit keyboard, the touchpad simply doesn't work as well as it should--and you interact with that the most. The Zenbook UX31 is our favorite Ultrabook so far, but the Air is still our top ultraportable.

EN→ESThe ASUS Zenbook UX31 takes a lot of what we loved about the 13-inch MacBook Air--a wafer-thin aluminum chassis, fast performance, instant resume, and good battery life--and adds even better audio and a higher-resolution display. Even better, the UX31 costs $200 less than the Air. The design of the ASUS also looks and feels more premium, thanks to the brushed-metal treatment. However, while we can live with not having a backlit keyboard, the touchpad simply doesn't work as well as it should--and you interact with that the most. The Zenbook UX31 is our favorite Ultrabook so far, but the Air is still our top ultraportable.

The UX31 is one of the most refreshing PCs I’ve reviewed in a long time. The design and quality are truly outstanding; ASUS clearly went all-out. The sheer thinness and light weight of the notebook make you want to buy it as soon as it’s picked up. Another major highlight of the notebook is the excellent 1600x900 screen resolution which is remarkable for a 13.3-inch notebook. I was also impressed with the good sound quality and six hours of battery life. The real downsides of the notebook concern the keyboard and touchpad; both take getting used to. The keyboard requires extra pressure; the keys must be 100% pressed otherwise keystrokes do not register. I mastered this after a few days. The touchpad needed a driver update before it became predictable, and even then it is not particularly accurate. I also wish the clicks were quieter. Other things to consider with this notebook are the lack of user-upgradeable parts (there are none) and scarcity of ports (that can be solved with adapters, however).

In theory ultrabooks are simply MacBook Air clones manufactured by Intel partners that are not as experienced with ultrathin and light machines as Apple. Well, the UX21E is quite a good machine. It comes with a 128GB SSD drive, it costs €200 more than the flagship 64GB iPad, but it is still a good 150 euro cheaper than a comparable MacBook Air with the same Core i5, 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD.

In theory ultrabooks are simply MacBook Air clones manufactured by Intel partners that are not as experienced with ultrathin and light machines as Apple. Well, the UX21E is quite a good machine. It comes with a 128GB SSD drive, it costs €200 more than the flagship 64GB iPad, but it is still a good 150 euro cheaper than a comparable MacBook Air with the same Core i5, 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD.

Overall, we like the Asus Zenbook Prime UX32VD. Our small gripes aside, it's a strong performer with real graphics punch. The system looks great and its brushed metal chassis is classy. The backlit keyboard looks positively great in dark or low-light settings. We didn't have any trouble with heat while the system was on flat surfaces, and it didn't get uncomfortably warm during lap duty. Importantly, the UX32VD feels sturdy, despite being a very thin ultrabook.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, una compañía multinacional Taiwanesa, produce placas base, tarjetas gráficas, unidades ópticas, PDA's, monitores de ordenador, ordenadores portátiles, servidores, productos de red, teléfonos móviles, carcasas de ordenador, componentes de ordenador, y sistemas de refrigeración de ordenadores. Los beneficios de la compañía en 2007 llegaron a los 6.900 millones de dólares USA. ASUS también produce componentes para otros fabricantes. El Eee PC inició el boom de los netbooks en 2008.
Estos procesadores gráficos pueden mostrar únicamente juegos antiguos, fluidamente. Juegos actuales pueden ser presentados con detalles sustancialmente reducidos.
NVIDIA GeForce G 105M: Una 9300M GS con mayor velocidad de reloj y por tanto un poco más rápida. Aún fabricada en 65 nm. Soporta Hybrid SLI con HybridPower y GeForceBoost (junto con el chipset Nvidia correcto).
Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge): Tarjeta de video que está integrada en los procesadores Pentium Sandy Bridge y Celeron. Similar a la HD Graphics 2000 para desktop y no está relacionada con la antigua Arrandale con el mismo nombre.
Algunos juegos actuales no fastidiosos pueden ser jugados fluidamente con pequeños detalles.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 futuras (1er trimestre 2011) tarjetas de video integradas en los procesadores Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 es la versión más veloz (internamente llamada GT2, con 12 Unidades de Ejecución (EUs).
Estas tarjetas también deben ser capaces de aguantar todos los juegos actuales, pero la mayoría de ellos en configuraciones de detalles medios y bajos y con bajas resoluciones. Juegos más antiguos, o menos exigentes todavía pueden ser jugados con buena calidad de gráficos.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M: 28nm Fermi Shrink. Clase media baja.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Tarjeta de video de procesador de gama alta de los modelos Ivy Bridge. Ofrece una frecuencia diferente en los diferentes modelos de CPU (ULV a quad core de desktop) y, por tanto, un rendimiento diferente.
Estas tarjetas de video de clase media pueden mostrar todos los juegos actuales fluentemente. Juegos exigentes sólo pueden ser jugados con configuraciones de detalles medios.

SU3500: Procesador single core energéticamente eficiente para pequeños subportátiles que se basa en el núcleo Penryn e incluye todos los recursos (como Virtualización, C6 state, ...). El rendimiento debe ser comparable con un Athlon II Neo K125 de 1,7 GHz.
Intel Core i7:
2677M: Procesador ULV de ahorro de energía con una tasa de reloj de 1.8-2.9 GHz gracias a Turbo Boost. Ofrece una integrada HD 3000 con una lenta tasa de reloj de 350 / 1200 MHz y un controlador de memoria DDR3-1333.
3517U: Veloz CPU ULV basado en Ivy-Bridge en el segundo trimestre de 2012. Ofrece una frecuencia de 1,9 - 3,0 GHz y un GPU HD 4000 (350 - 1150 MHz). El TDP es de 17 W.
Intel Core i5:
2557M: Procesador ULV de ahorro de energía con una tasa de reloj de 1.7-2.7 GHz gracias a Turbo Boost. Ofrece una integrada HD 3000 con una lenta tasa de reloj de 350 / 1200 MHz y un controlador de memoria DDR3-1333.
2467M: Procesador ULV de ahorro de energía con una tasa de reloj de 1.8-2.9 GHz gracias a Turbo Boost. Ofrece una integrada HD 3000 con una lenta tasa de reloj de 350 / 1.6-2.3 GHzgracias a Turbo Boost. Ofrece una integrada HD 3000 con una lenta tasa de reloj de 350 / 1150 MHz y un controlador de memoria DDR3-1333.
2537M: Procesador ULV ahorrador de energía con frecuencia de 1,4-2,3 GHz, gracias al Turbo Boost. Ofrece una HD 3000 integrada con frecuencia de lentos 350 / 900 MHz e un controlador de memoria para DDR3-1333.
3317U: CPU ULV basado en Ivy-Bridge en el segundo trimestre de 2012. Ofrece una frecuencia de 1,7 - 2,6 GHz y un GPU HD 4000 (350 - 1050 MHz). El TDP es de 17 W.
Intel Core i3:
2367M: Procesador ULV energéticamente eficiente con frecuencia de 1,4 GHz sin Turbo Boost. Ofrece una HD 3000 integrada con baja frecuencia de 350 / 1000 MHz y un controlador de memoria DDR3-1333.
13.0: Este formato de pantalla puede ser llamado formato - sub-portatil.
La ventaja es, que la sub-portátil puede tener dimensiones menores y puede ser cargada fácilmente. Además, la pequeña pantalla tiene la ventaja de que necesita de menos energía, lo que mejora el tiempo de ejecución de la batería y como consecuencia la movilidad. La desventaja es que la lectura de textos es muy exhaustiva para los ojos. Altas resoluciones difícilmente pueden ser usadas.

La ventaja es, que la sub-portátil puede tener dimensiones menores y puede ser cargada fácilmente. La razón del porque a tantas personas les gustan pantallas con tamaño mediano es, que ese tamaño no es exhaustivo para los ojos, no necesita de mucha energía, pero por otro lado las portátiles pueden ser mantenidos bien compactos.
