El procesador instalado en el Pavilion de 17.3" tiene potencia de sobra para el uso rutinario. También renderiza fluidamente juegos de ordenador en conjunto con la gráfica GeForce. El portátil apenas se calienta y funciona en silencio al menos en inactivo tras elegir las opciones correspondientes en la BIOS. Los dispositivos de entrada son bastante buenos para el uso doméstico. Los escritores prolíficos preferirán otro portátil. Los valores medidos de la pantalla HD+ dependiente del ángulo de visión noi son excitantes, pero sí aceptables a la vista del precio. Por desgracia, HP ha instalado un modelo con superficie lustrosa.

Por un precio de entre 575 y 600 Euros, el comprador se lleva un todoterreno de 17.3" bien diseñado con el HP Pavilion 17-f217ng, el cual, empero, tiene también sus defectos.

Defectos son, por ejemplo, la falta de cubierta de mantenimiento. No sólo cabe criticar la falta de la cubierta, sino también la construcción del portátil. Aunque hoy día otros fabricantes también hayan pasado sin cubierta de mantenimiento, la carcasa suele poder abrirse con facilidad. No es el caso del Pavilion - lo que también pasa en muchos otros modelos HP. La garantía de un año es otro tema a criticar. Otros fabricantes sacan portátiles de precio similar con una garantía de dos años. Y, por último: El Pavilion sólo trae Fast Ethernet. Hoy día, el estándar es Gigabit Ethernet.
