In the CPU tests, with its 2.0GHz CPU, the Y530 fell in line just below the slightly faster 2.1GHz processors. The Y530 had its poorest showings in the memories and gaming tests. However, it held its own by shadowing the front runners in the Hard Disk Drive Test, Communications Test, Music Test, and TV and Movies Test. The Hitachi drive in the Lenovo Y530 proved to be a powerful addition for a 5,400 RPM drive and was surely a factor in the strong test results. The Y530's 15.4" screen, with its native resolution of 1280x800, was bright, and sharp, with good color reproduction and a quick response time.

Limited to the NVIDIA 9300M dedicated graphics card which can be found in some netbooks, the Y530 doesn’t perform that well in games compared to other competing notebooks. For consumers the main use of the dedicated graphics would be for HD video decoding and digital audio out over HDMI for watching movies on your home television. For movies on the go the Y530 has a good surround sound system, which is a good step above what we usually see on most notebooks.

It uses the Intel GM45 chipset that gives it some amazing features one wouldn't expect in a low cost PC such as speedy DDR3 memory, draft-n wireless support and newer integrated graphics. This would all be great if Lenovo didn't use an older 32-bit Intel Pentium Dual Core processor that limits the system to 32-bit software. If users can accept this slower processor, they do end up with a very feature packed laptop for the money.

This means that it comes with fairly average specifications. While it does lack a few of the newer interfaces, it won't impact many individuals. The price is competitive at $1,149 - $1,249 and should be on the short list for those who are looking for a mid-sized notebook that can handle multimedia and moderate gaming. The battery life means this isn't a notebook for frequent travelers and those who are away from power for long periods of time.

While the Y650 performs most day-to-day tasks extremely well and handles virtually any video you can throw at it, the low-display resolution makes this system hard to take seriously as a good media laptop. In the midst of a new crop of $1000-to-$1300, thin-body, large-screen laptops, including the Samsung R610, the Y650 offers some great general performance, and you won't need to schedule regular appointments with a chiropractor if you're going to be carrying it with you often. If you are hunting for a stylish, thin laptop with a powerful processor, and you can look past the low resolution, you could do a lot worse. And you'll be hard-pressed to find a better-sounding laptop in this class.

The Y650 is designed with mobility in mind when others (ahem, other Windows laptops) with similar screens are at least a pound heavier. Yet it can also fill the void left by an old desktop. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 is the lightest 16-inch media center around, but its somewhat high price tag isn't justified by its parts.

While we are glad to see the graphics performance of the Y650 exceeds the performance of the old Y530, the new NVIDIA GeForce G 105M dedicated graphics card just didn't perform as well in games compared to other 16-inch notebooks we've tested. That said, the Y650 is thinner and lighter than any other 16-inch notebook we've seen ... and the discrete graphics card in this machine is perfectly capable of handling HD video decoding and digital audio out over HDMI for watching movies on your HDTV. If you're looking for an attractive entertainment notebook for your family the Y650 makes a great choice, but if you need a high-end gaming notebook this isn't it.

Performance is good although it does suffer in the graphics by relying on the integrated video. It does come with some very good battery life for its size. It's really hard to find systems with similar features and performance but some may want to look at the version with the NVIDIA graphics if they need 3D support.

While you will need to get a memory upgrade at least to make it truly functional, the system has dedicated graphics and a wide range of ports that you just can't find in other laptops in this price class. It keeps Lenovo's class leading keyboard designs that make it a joy to use. So, if you want to do a little gaming on the side, this is clearly the budget system for you.

At its base, the machine doesn't really standout, but pop in a Blu-Ray drive for less than $100 and you've got a much more capable addition to your home theater setup. Throw in a discrete graphics card from ATI and then you'll really be flying along, but you'll also increase the base price to almost $1000, which is still competitive, but not cheap. Overall, we liked the design and options we found on the Sony Vaio NW, though many of the extras seem to be conceits for Sony fans, like the extra Memory Stick slot or the choice of i.Link (Sony's brand name for FireWire) over eSata for an expansion port.

EN→ESLenovo's IdeaPad Y550p may not be the latest model from the company but it still provides a solid level of performance at a very reasonable $100 price tag. Performance is strong thanks to the quad Core i7 processor and 4GB of memory and the graphics are more than enough for gaming at the moderate resolutions. There are just a number of quirks with the keyboard, trackpad and software that deter from an otherwise solid 15-inch laptop.

Lenovo produce sobremesas, portátiles, servidores, ordenadores de mano, equipamiento de imágenes y equipos de telefonía móvil. Lenovo también proporciona servicios de integración e información tecnológica, y su unidad QDI ofrece servicios de gestión de personal. Sus cuarteles ejecutivos están situados en China y USA. Está escriturada en Hong Kong. Lenovo se formó en 1984 como una división tecnológica de la Academia China de Ciencias. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 es un chip de video integrado (incorporado) en un chipset de Mobile Intel 965GM (para Merom =Core 2 arquitectura). Es el sucesor del Intel GMA 950. Lo más interesante es la integración de un pipeline completamente programable. Debido a la integración de características Direct X9, HDR y Hardware Transform & Lighning (T&L) – su predecesor solo tenía Software T&L – debería estar listo para Windows Vista Premium (soporte Aero Glass completamente). Con respecto a los datos, el rendimiento debe ser claramente mejor al de GMA 950.
Estas tarjetas también deben ser capaces de aguantar todos los juegos actuales, pero la mayoría de ellos en configuraciones de detalles medios y bajos y con bajas resoluciones. Juegos más antiguos, o menos exigentes todavía pueden ser jugados con buena calidad de gráficos.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GPU integrado (memoria compartida) em el chipset GM45 (Montevina). Gracias a dos shaders más y una frecuencia de núcleo más alta, es mucho más rápido que el antiguo GMA X3100. Aun así, no es recomendable para jugadores (juegos DirectX 10 no son fluidos y pueden ser jugados sólo con configuraciones muy bajas). El procesador de video integrado es capaz de ayudar a decodificar videos HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2), como para una reproducción fluida de Blu-Ray con CPUs lentos.
NVIDIA GeForce G 105M: Una 9300M GS con mayor velocidad de reloj y por tanto un poco más rápida. Aún fabricada en 65 nm. Soporta Hybrid SLI con HybridPower y GeForceBoost (junto con el chipset Nvidia correcto).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: El Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (en ocasiones llamado también GMA X4500 HD u otras combinaciones) es un adaptador gráfico integrado compatible con DirectX 10 en los chipset GM45, GE45 y GS45 de la plataforma Centrino 2 (Montevina). El chip no tiene memoria de video dedicada, pero toma memoria dinámicamente de la principal (hasta 384 MB).
La versión a 400 MHz de la 4500MHD encontrada en los chipsets GL40 y GS40, se llama GMA 4500M (sin el HD) y tiene un peor rendimiento en juegos 3D y descodificación de video.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este es el sucesor Core Duo y el Core Solo con un pipeline más largo y con una velocidad entre 5-20% sin mayor consumo de energía. Adicional al diseño de Core Duo existe un cuarto decodificador, una unidad SSE ampliada y una unidad lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.
Sus características son: 2 núcleos (cores), una amplificación de comando de 64-bit EM64T y 2 o 4 MB L2 Cache y 291 millones de transistores, que son acabados en 65nm. Mas allá de esto, todos los tipos soportan técnicas "Execute Disable Bit", SSSE3 (SSE4), Enhanced Speedstep, LaGrande y la mayoría de técnicas de virtualizacion (VT) Vanderpool.
El Core 2 Duo para laptops es idéntico a los procesadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, pero los procesadores para notebooks trabajan con tensiones más bajas (0.95 a 1188 Volt) y un Frontside bus clock (1066 contra 667 MHz). El rendimiento de laptops cuena con una frecuencia de 20-25% más baja que PCs Desktop debido a una frecuencia más baja de Frontside bus y los discos duros más lentos.
T9300: La T9300 es una rapida CPU de gama media para portatiles y similar al T9400 pero con un menor FSB.
P8700: Procesador de gama media con 3 MB de cache de tercer nivel y un TDP de 25 vatios.
Intel Pentium Dual Core: El procesador Double Core con una muy buena relación de rendimiento a consumo de corriente. Los 2 MB L2 Cache son utilizados juntos al doble. La capacidad máxima de 31 watts es únicamente 4 watts mayor que la Pentium M (predecesor).
T4200: CPU de doble nucleo de nivel basico a medio con 1 MB De cache de nivel 2 y sin tecnología de virtualización. Comparada con la linea Core 2 Duo, algunos mecanismos de ahorro de energía están desactivados.

Intel Core 2 Extreme:
X9100: El X9100 es el dual-core más rápido de la gama Core 2 y gracias aun multiplicador libre, puede ser facilmente overclockeable. Más tarde el X9100 fue sustituido por el más barato y energeticamente económico T9900 (con un multiplicador fijo).
Intel Core i3:
330M: La Core i3-330M es una 350M con menor velocidad de reloj y por tanto carece tambien de la característica Turbo Boost y la velocidad máxima de reloj es de 2.13 GHz. Gracias a Hyperthreading, se pueden procesar 4 hilos de forma simultanea. Se incluyen en el paquete una tarjeta gráfica integrada (GMA HD 3150) y un controlador de memoria DDR3.
Intel Core i7:
720QM: El Core i7-720QM es el Core i7 Quad Core más lento en 2009 y tiene velocidades entre 1.6 y 2.8 GHz (debido al modo Turbo). Por tanto, combina las ventajas de una CPU de cuatro nucleos lenta con las de un solo nucleo. Comparada con las rápidas CPUs Core i7, el 720QM solo presenta 6MB de cache de nivel 3.
