This past week we’ve been able to take a closer look and get a hands-on with the Toshiba Satellite Pro U400. Having already shown you the unboxing, it was time to see just how usable the U400 was in practice. We had high hopes for portability, and we weren’t disappointed; this small laptop hasn’t been hard to carry around, weighing only 4.6lbs. I liked being able to navigate easily through Windows XP as opposed to Vista (Toshiba provide downgrade media at no extra cost), which many still find a frustrating (and resource-hungry) change.

The Toshiba Satellite U400 gives business users a solid feature list and moderate performance, but did not do as well as the nearly identical configured Satellite U405 we previously reviewed using Vista instead of XP. Performance across the board was less in every test we performed, with the only configuration difference between increased RAM on the Vista model. The other downside to this configuration is the paint finish which doesn't hold up as well as the Fusion finish on the consumer line, evident by the scuff marks already found on our review sample. If you were looking to purchase this notebook, I might direct you to a Vista configuration of the business U400, or the consumer U405 entirely for the better Fusion finish.

Overall I enjoyed my time with the Satellite Pro D400, especially because it is hard to find a laptop that is able to keep up with my ADD brain and constant multitasking! The Pro U400 will probably leave most home users relatively cold, but business customers (or anybody wanting a solid, XP-based option) will find the notebook, with its sturdy keyboard and average spec sheet, a suitable companion. The Toshiba Satellite Pro U400 is available now, priced from $1,049.99.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 es un chip de video integrado (incorporado) en un chipset de Mobile Intel 965GM (para Merom =Core 2 arquitectura). Es el sucesor del Intel GMA 950. Lo más interesante es la integración de un pipeline completamente programable. Debido a la integración de características Direct X9, HDR y Hardware Transform & Lighning (T&L) – su predecesor solo tenía Software T&L – debería estar listo para Windows Vista Premium (soporte Aero Glass completamente). Con respecto a los datos, el rendimiento debe ser claramente mejor al de GMA 950.
Estos procesadores gráficos pueden mostrar únicamente juegos antiguos, fluidamente. Juegos actuales pueden ser presentados con detalles sustancialmente reducidos.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este es el sucesor Core Duo y el Core Solo con un pipeline más largo y con una velocidad entre 5-20% sin mayor consumo de energía. Adicional al diseño de Core Duo existe un cuarto decodificador, una unidad SSE ampliada y una unidad lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.
Sus características son: 2 núcleos (cores), una amplificación de comando de 64-bit EM64T y 2 o 4 MB L2 Cache y 291 millones de transistores, que son acabados en 65nm. Mas allá de esto, todos los tipos soportan técnicas "Execute Disable Bit", SSSE3 (SSE4), Enhanced Speedstep, LaGrande y la mayoría de técnicas de virtualizacion (VT) Vanderpool.
El Core 2 Duo para laptops es idéntico a los procesadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, pero los procesadores para notebooks trabajan con tensiones más bajas (0.95 a 1188 Volt) y un Frontside bus clock (1066 contra 667 MHz). El rendimiento de laptops cuena con una frecuencia de 20-25% más baja que PCs Desktop debido a una frecuencia más baja de Frontside bus y los discos duros más lentos.

Toshiba: Toshiba es uno de los manufactureros internacionales de portátiles mas grandes. Existen muchos análisis para modelos Toshiba.
