El ASUS ROG STRIX Scar 16 es un portátil tope de gama que no decepciona en absoluto. Su calidad de construcción es excelente, tiene un diseño y una estética gaming sobresaliente y desde luego no dejará a nadie indiferente. La pantalla mini LED también es otro de sus puntos fuertes, y lo mismo puedo decir del teclado y de la almohadilla táctil, que consiguen ofrecer una experiencia de uso redonda. Su precio también es alto, pero teniendo en cuenta lo que ofrece en términos de calidad de construcción, diseño y rendimiento creo que es bastante razonable

ASUS ha vuelto a llevar las tecnologías de CPU y GPU más recientes al máximo posible de su rendimiento. Y lo ha hecho de tal modo, que no solo es posible disfrutar de rendimientos espectaculares para la CPU y la GPU por separado, sino también de manera conjunta y con un control preciso sobre el mismo. De este modo, podemos aprovechar todo su potencial cuando sea necesario, o mantener el equipo en silencio cuando no es conveniente ni necesario exprimir todos los vatios que se pueden manejar. Los resultados de rendimiento en juegos son espectaculares para la resolución 2K nativa de la pantalla, con hasta 224 fps en The Riftbreaker en modo ULTRA con RTX. En otros títulos bajamos a 76 fps, eso sí, pero la norma es superar los 100 fps con “todo a tope”. Nada mal para un equipo con una pantalla capaz de dar hasta 240 Hz de tasa de refresco. De este modo, podemos disfrutar de una fluidez excepcional en una pantalla MiniLED brillante, con un contraste sobresaliente y una colorimetría muy bien trabajada con hasta 1.100 nits de brillo.

Llega el turno de sacar conclusiones tras la review del ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 (2023). Lo primero que debemos destacar es que estamos ante uno de los mejores portátiles que podemos encontrar en el mercado en cuanto a potencia bruta. La combinación de su procesador Intel Core i9-13980HX con los 32 GB de memoria DDR5 a 4.800 MHz y con la tarjeta gráfica Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 lo hacen prácticamente inmejorable en cuanto a rendimiento para juegos u otros menesteres. No en vano ofrece un rendimiento a medio camino entre las RTX 4070 y RTX 4070 Ti de sobremesa, que no es poco para un portátil. Pero el ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 (2023) no solo destaca por su rendimiento. Cuenta con una excepcional pantalla ROG Nebula HDR Display de 16 pulgadas Mini-LED con resolución QHD+ y 240 Hz que hacen una delicia jugar o incluso trabajar sobre ella. Además, su conectividad está a la altura y su diseño no dejará a nadie indiferente, como tampoco lo hará su precio. Y es que podemos encontrar el ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 (2023) a la venta por 3.699 euros en la versión aquí analizada. Es un precio inalcanzable para la mayoría de los bolsillos, pero debemos destacar que es el portátil más económico con una RTX 4090. Teniendo en cuenta las calidades de ASUS, es realmente el modelo más interesante si buscamos el máximo rendimiento en su formato.

Con este nuevo ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 16 han conseguido implementar un hardware más potente mejorando aún más un sistema de refrigeración que se postulaba como lo mejor del mercado. Por si todo esto fuera poco encontramos la perfección en prácticamente todos los ámbitos a valorar en un equipo portátil, con un panel extraordinario, un teclado y touchpad sublime, un exquisito sistema de audio, una refrigeración capaz de mantener controlado un i9 y una 4090 en un equipo de reducido tamaño y una buena autonomía sin descuidar apartados como la estética y los materiales e incluso la retroiluminación. Sinceramente, no solo no le podemos encontrar pega alguna a este equipo sino que nos parece difícil de superar, al menos hasta la siguiente generación de SCAR.

After testing the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 extensively, 'm thoroughly impressed with its performance and features. The powerful hardware comprising Intel's top-of-the-line i9 processor and Nvidia's flagship RTX 4090 GPU deliver unmatched frame rates even in the most demanding games. The laptop also handles intensive tasks like 4K video editing without breaking a sweat thanks to the excellent cooling system that keeps temperatures in check. Battery life is surprisingly good for a gaming laptop, lasting over 5 hours for productivity work. The 16-inch QHD Mini LED display also looks stunning with its high refresh rate, brightness and contrast. Gaming and watching movies on it is an absolute delight. There are a few small downsides like the average webcam and lack of SD card reader. But overall, the Scar 16 hits the sweet spot of power, display quality, performance, and portability. Overall, if you want a feature-packed high-end gaming laptop in a 16-inch form factor, the Scar 16 is easy to recommend.

It's clear that the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 delivers pretty much everything we love about the 18-inch model but in a scaled-down package. Unfortunately, while that does mean it can keep up with the pack leaders in most respects, it lags at the back of that pack. This Strix produces better performance than any Intel 12th Gen/Nvidia RTX 30 Series gaming machine we tested, but it cannot quite match the absolute most powerful 2023 gaming laptops on the market. Whether that's bad news is entirely up to you, since the Scar 16's capable (if not category-leading) performance also comes in at a slightly more reasonable price than the performance leaders, and still gives you plenty of power to enjoy the latest games. As a result, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 remains our favorite 16-inch gaming laptop, thanks to better performance and price for similar hardware, but it's a close race. If you prefer the style of the Scar 16's semi-transparent chassis and longer battery life, the gaming potential is close enough that you certainly won't regret buying it.

Convinced by my big claim up top? You should be. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is not just a great gaming laptop, it offers impressive value across the crop of new RTX 40-series systems. The combo breaker of impressive graphical and compute performance makes this a serious speed demon, no matter what you throw at it. And when looking at those comparisons to the far more expensive RTX 4090 laptops like the Strix Scar 18, you’re getting more for your money (even if that price is a little steep). Pair that with a mouthwatering mini LED display, stellar keyboard, and a ton of I/O, and this is a super solid all-rounder. Regardless of my small issues, if you want to jump into the RTX 40 series family, stop and think before you spend too much, and consider the Strix Scar 16.

There will obviously be more RTX 4000 series laptops paired with the 13th-gen Intel processors. All of them will undoubtedly be quite good in the performance department and will, more than likely, cost a pretty penny. However, ASUS has a history of making remarkably high-octane laptops that do nothing to disturb a fluid gaming experience. The ROG Strix Scar 16 has all the ingredients for the highest quality in GPU and processor-intensive tasks. It also has a remarkable display to back it up and a string of software and hardware tricks to maintain its gamer aesthetic. Apart from a missed SD card slot and rather average speakers, the laptop doesn’t appear to miss a beat at all. I guess what I’m saying is that 2023 will reveal many more capable machines but I doubt any will quite match up to the overall package that is the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16. Ultimately though, for those seeking a top-of-the-line gaming laptop this year, the ROG Strix Scar 16 is certainly a strong contender that shouldn’t be overlooked.

The transition to the new format was quite successful, so ROG Strix SCAR 16 did not disappoint in any way. In addition, now it can pleasantly surprise with a very bright display with Mini LED backlight and support for spectacular HDR. Increased performance compared to the previous generation is also there, although it will not be strongly felt in all games. Well, other strengths of this particular line were not lost. Among the biggest issues is, subjectively, the inconvenient location of the USB-A ports (well, there could be more of them), as well as the lack of face or fingerprint scanners in an expensive laptop. And yes, the high cost (147,999 hryvnias/$4,000) is unlikely to make it a bestseller. But those people who can afford such a purchase and are currently looking for a new laptop should definitely take a look at the SCAR 16.
