Es hora de recapitular las sensaciones generales que nos ha ido dejando durante las últimas semanas el Acer Chromebook Plus 514. Estos portátiles conllevan cierta curva de aprendizaje para poder familiarizarse por completo con el sistema operativo Chrome OS, y este es un motivo que me hace pensar que su público objetivo está más en los estudiantes que en los profesionales, ya que tienen mayor capacidad de adaptación. En cuanto a rendimiento y eficiencia ha quedado claro que en las tareas del día a día no sufre, y con un precio que se sitúa en el entorno de los 400/500 euros es una alternativa muy interesante a los portátiles tradicionales, que suelen costar bastante más a poco que se busquen especificaciones elevadas. Seguramente no sea el Chromebook más indicado para disfrutar del ocio con juegos o plataformas de streaming, pero sí lo es si priorizas la productividad, con un nivel de autonomía muy destacable.

The Acer Chromebook Plus 514 isn’t the definitive Chromebook to go out and buy tomorrow, but then again, that isn’t the point of a £399.99/$399.99 device. It is instead a laptop designed to offer what most people need for a price that most people would be happy to pay, and while it may not excel in any one area, it remains a respectable all-rounder choice. The quad-core Ryzen 3 7320C processor powers it to decent benchmark results and nippy real-world performance for the productivity tasks this laptop is designed for. What’s more, it’s a good-looking laptop with a sleek silver plastic chassis, while it also offers a plentiful port selection for a laptop at this price. The battery life on offer here is decent for a Chromebook, although we have seen better results with the likes of the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 and the touchscreen Acer Chromebook Spin 514.

Zoals gezegd waren de verwachtingen van een sub 500 euro laptop vooraf bescheiden, zeg maar gerust laag. Na een maand gebruik ben ik echter positief verrast door de totale ervaring met de Chromebook Plus 514. Als ik hem pak lijkt hij altijd nog genoeg accuduur over te hebben om mijn werk mee te doen, je krijgt wat extra pixels wat (school)werk heel duidelijk ten goede komt, plus je kan er comfortabel uren op tikken. De voornaamste nadelen zijn de beperkingen van het scherm op gebied van kleur en helderheid en het relatief basic touchpad. Twee zaken die je op dit prijspunt eigenlijk niet beter kan verwachten en ook niet beter zal vinden, maar wel twee hele duidelijke argumenten waarom je, indien je het budget hebt, meer uit zou willen geven als het even kan. Wil of kan je niet honderden euros meer uitgeven en kan jij met ChromeOS uit de voeten dan denk ik dat Acer met de Chromebook Plus 514 een hele leuke laptop neerzet.
