While a redeeming factor can be found in the reasonable $700 price tag, I would much rather opt for a laptop with better performance specs in lieu of the clunky 2-in-1 capabilities offered by the Dell Inspiron 14. As a master of none, the Inspiron 14 fails to satisfy any area of productivity, gaming, or media enjoyment. If the 2-in-1 functionality is non-negotiable, and you can find it on sale, the Inspiron 14 may be a worthwhile purchase. Otherwise, I would recommend steering clear and spending your money elsewhere. Dell's Inspiron 14 2-in-1 tries to do too many things at once. In its efforts, it falls short of establishing itself as a satisfactory productivity machine, gaming laptop, or 2-in-1 tablet. It has a few redeeming qualities, like a springy keyboard and a sleek design, but they can't save the Inspiron 14 from being spread too thin.

The Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is a decent enough Windows 11 computer for browsing the web, watching videos or for work. The best thing about this device is its affordable price if you go with the entry-level AMD model. Other than that, it’s decidedly unremarkable in most respects — as is usually the case with the Inspiron lineup. If you’re willing to spend a few hundred dollars more, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 starts at $899 and features better performance, a more vibrant display and better build quality. Those who prefer an Apple laptop and don’t care about 2-in-1 functionality would do well with the MacBook Air M1, which costs $999 but is frequently discounted to $899. Even if the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 isn’t exactly inspiring, I’d recommend it for people on a strict budget.

We see no shame in an economy laptop missing the four-star mark. Frankly, we considered giving the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 three-and-a-half stars for its low price, competitive performance, and long battery life. Unfortunately, working with a screen that can't deliver at least 300 nits of brightness is simply no fun to the point of detrimental. Still, if you're looking for a convertible laptop on a tight budget, it's worth keeping an eye on Dell's sales and discounts. That Lavender Blue model is fairly tempting.

The Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is an okay laptop at $650, but it’s not good enough at $950. And even at its entry-level price, it’s beaten soundly by the Asus ZenBook 14 OLED which starts out just slightly more expensive with a gorgeous OLED display. It’s an odd coincidence that the last laptop I reviewed, the Lenovo Flex 5i 14, was almost identical in its overall value and received a very similar review. Sure, you’ll get competent productivity performance from the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 and great battery life. Those are major plusses in its favor. But the overall construction and poor display hold it back from a recommendation.
