But the version of Dell's Studio 17 that we review here -- the high-end model with a 17.3-inch touchscreen -- isn't really either. The touchscreen Studio 17 offers good performance, but it's too expensive for a machine in Dell's mid-range series, and, at this price, it should really have a display with a 'Full HD' resolution.

Before the iPhone was launched, the mobile networks were worried that the ‘multitouch’ control system wouldn’t catch on. How wrong they were – it’s now a standard feature for smartphones, and laptops and monitors are only just catching up. The state of the art screen may be a little before its time, but this is an excellent desktop replacement regardless.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650: La Mobility HD 4650 está basada en la arquitectura de la 4650 de escritorio, pero presenta una menor velocidad de reloj de la memoria y del núcleo. Dependiendo de la velocidad del núcleo (valores posibles entre 450 y 550MHz) y la memoria usada (se pueden usar DDR2, DDR3, GDDR3 a 600-800 MHz) la Mobile 4650 puede mostrar diferentes rendimientos. El consumo de corriente solo del chip está entre 15-25 vatios. Presenta características de video Avivo HD.
Algunos juegos actuales no fastidiosos pueden ser jugados fluidamente con pequeños detalles.

720QM: El Core i7-720QM es el Core i7 Quad Core más lento en 2009 y tiene velocidades entre 1.6 y 2.8 GHz (debido al modo Turbo). Por tanto, combina las ventajas de una CPU de cuatro nucleos lenta con las de un solo nucleo. Comparada con las rápidas CPUs Core i7, el 720QM solo presenta 6MB de cache de nivel 3.
