En definitiva, el realme 9 4G es más una apuesta que una propuesta. Este terminal llega con características interesantes para cualquier tipo de usuario que busque un terminal de gama media con lo básico. Lo que ocurre es que la ejecución no termina de convencernos a nivel general y, es que, falla en la experiencia. El hecho de que realme no haya decido apostar por un procesador más potente, siempre dentro de la gama en la que nos estamos moviendo, o por una optimización mayor es lo que hace que el realme 9 4G no sea tan recomendable como otras opciones que encontramos dentro del abanico de dispositivos de la propia compañía. Sí, tiene bazas capaces de convencer a muchos usuarios como es la cámara de 108 megapíxeles, una pantalla AMOLED con 90 Hz o una batería que parece inagotable. Pero todo esto queda en un segundo plano cuando a la hora de utilizar el terminal hay segundos de espera para simplemente abrir una aplicación. Además, el realme 9 4G tiene el enemigo en casa.

Maybe. Compared to its 5G sibling, the Realme 9 4G adds a nice OLED panel, an in-display fingerprint reader, Android 12, and a faster 33W charger. These are some solid reasons to get the 4G model, especially considering it costs just ₹500 (~$7) more and 5G connectivity is nowhere near fruition in India. However, all the other aspects of the phone are holding it back. The lack of a stereo speaker pair already puts it behind the competition, and Realme’s decision to use a middling processor (when its own 9 Pro uses a beefier chip for the same price) doesn’t seem right. While giving buyers a lot of options makes sense, Realme has to draw the line somewhere. In the current state, there are multiple phones from the company in the sub-₹20,000 segment, and the Realme 9 4G is probably the most confused of them all. It’s neither fully meant for entertainment (without stereo speakers) nor is it good for gaming (thanks to the processor), and above all, the low-light camera performance is among the weakest on any phone of this price.

70% Realme 9 4G review: a reasonably good choice in the affordable segment

I really think that the Realme 9 would have made more sense if the 5G version’s Dimensity 810 SoC could have made its way to the former and removed the need for the latter entirely. Everything that the Realme 9 5G lacks is fulfilled by the regular Realme 9’s specs. There is a much better camera involved, an AMOLED panel that has a jittery 90Hz refresh rate but much better colour reproduction. The charging speeds are faster and authentication is done with a trusty in-display fingerprint sensor. Even on the software side, the Realme 9 comes with Android 12 out of the box while the 5G model is still on the previous version. If only the Realme 9’s performance was better, the device would have been surely a top recommendation in my book. Users looking for a good gaming experience on a budget can certainly do with better devices in the same price range like the Samsung Galaxy F23 (review) or the iQOO Z6 (review). That said, the new Realme 9 does come across as a compelling option that gets a lot of things right.
