El ASUS ROG Strix G18 en esta edición del 2023 combina un buen rendimiento con un precio bastante más contenido de lo esperado. Con un precio en la web de ASUS de 2.199 euros a fecha de publicación de este artículo, tenemos un equipo gaming "de los de antes" en el mejor sentido de la palabra, un portátil grande, con buena capacidad de refrigeración y una pantalla amplia donde da gusto jugar. Es cierto que hay algo de desequilibrio entre el procesador, un Core i9-13980HX de lo más potente del mercado, con la GPU, que se queda en una RTX 4070 por debajo de las 4080 y de las 4090, pero también hay que tener en cuenta que el llevar una de esas GPUs haría que el precio se disparara exponencialmente. La RTX 4070 es capaz de mover juegos con soltura a 1080p y 2K, y siempre tendremos el extra que supone la tecnología DLSS 3 con generación intermedia de frames. Por todo ello, el ASUS ROG Strix G18 es un portátil con una excelente relación entre prestaciones y precio. No es fino ni es ligero, pero a cambio ofrece una pantalla más que generosa con un hardware muy capaz con un precio bastante ajustado.

En general el equipo es muy completo, con un buen sistema de refrigeración para mantener a raya las temperaturas de la CPU y GPU, con un modo estándar de funcionamiento que solo genera 40 dB jugando. El teclado me ha gustado más de lo habitual en este tipo de equipos, el panel táctil es bueno para trabajar, y la pantalla es posiblemente lo mejor del equipo, aunque no tenga un HDR real. Con su tamaño mucha gente podría prescindir de su sobremesa, e incluso de usar un monitor externo porque se ve todo suficientemente grande, incluso para trabajar.

El ROG STRIX G18 impresiona por su mayor tamaño, algo que le faculta beneficios y perjudica en otros aspectos. Comenzando con su diseño sigue gustando, usando materiales nobles como el metal, con un teclado muy cómodo y completo. Es realmente llamativo haciendo uso de ese verde voltio en sus dos capas. La pantalla es más que adecuada para jugar, con 165 Hz y compatibilidad con G-Sync para una mayor suavidad. Los profesionales sin duda preferirán buscar en este apartado otros modelos de la casa que le den una mayor cobertura del color, así como otros aspectos. Siguiendo con el aspecto en juegos, el sonido realmente gusta gracias a su amplificador y el uso de IA para el micrófono es de agradecer sobre todo en partidas cooperativas o realizando streaming. Si habéis entendido bien, streaming y es que gracias a su CPU con 16 núcleos y 24 hilos unidos a una RTX 4060 LAPTOP vamos a contar con potencia suficiente para transmitir. Su rendimiento se sitúa entre una 3080 y una 3080Ti para portátiles, aunque DLSS 3 le hace sacar una mayor ventaja incluso en el trazado de rayos, es lo que tiene cada nueva generación. Por último, su consumo se ha visto reducido y la batería nos dará para un uso de más de 7 horas en navegación web o visionado de multimedia. Para todo lo demás necesitaremos del transformador. Su precio rondará los 2300 euros en tiendas, siendo una inversión elevada, pero sin duda satisfará a los jugadores que deseen realizar streaming.
