Asus está demostrando que no solo desde ese país se produce más barato sino que están dispuestos a demostrar que se puede producir calidad e innovar todavía mucho en el concepto del PC. El UX30 es una maquina de diseño exquisito, moderno y sutil, que ofrece formas, peso y tamaño a los usuarios que aprecien estas características por encima de los MHz, los GB y las pulgadas.

We can't understand why it runs Vista, however, and there are enough gripes with the hardware to tempts us to look elsewhere.

Not the fastest laptop, but good mobility and excellent quality and style. The Asus UX30 is the second Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage (CULV) laptop we've seen but, unlike the Advent Altro, this machine is aimed at the top end of the market. With its stunning design, usability and quality, the UX30 is easy to like. It's underpowered in comparison to rivals such as Apple's MacBook Air – although it's also cheaper – but if you're after something for the commute and place style over speed, it's worth a look.

Look elsewhere if value for money is high on your agenda, however, and the same goes for those of you seeking a portable powerhouse.

The Dell Adamo is one manufacturer's attempt to offer a Windows PC alternative to Apple's svelte MacBook Air. The Asus UX30 is another. This £1,000 thin-and-light laptop with an ultra-low-voltage processor apes Apple's machine to a surprising degree. There's plenty to like about the Asus UX30. It's better value than the Dell Adamo and has a better specification than the MSI X340. At £1,000, though, it's not that much cheaper than the MacBook Air and, while it's a fantastic-looking laptop, it's nowhere near as lust-worthy as Apple's offering.

We’ve been lusting after the new breed of thin and light CULV laptops ever since we saw the gorgeous MSI X320 at this year’s CES and now models are starting to arrive in earnest. We’ll have a review of the Advent Altro for you next week, but first up is the ASUS UX30. CULV laptops are based on Intel’s Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (geddit?) processors and these offer energy efficiency approaching that of the Intel Atom, but better performance. The ASUS UX30 is an impressive first entry into the CULV laptop market, but it’s a bit too expensive for what’s on offer and the specification doesn’t quite tally with the premium price.

I really like the UX51VZ, but there have been a few flies in the ointment. One is that WiFi connectivity is intermittent—there’s a workaround that involves disabling Bluetooth support, but while I can live with that it’s not ideal for many people. Pricing is a second concern, and even at the now-reduced pricing I still feel the UX51VZ is priced a couple hundred dollars too high for most.

Asus have provided a measly 12-month guarantee free of charge; a warranty upgrade is recommended on a near-$2000 notebook – you should be able to get one at the store. Otherwise the Zenbook UX51VZ is an eminently capable machine.

This is a high-class laptop with a surprising price but, get beyond its looks, and it’s obvious where corners have been cut to keep the costs down. Asus has had to pick and choose its priorities because of this machine’s lower price, but it’s done a great job with the UX303LA: the screen might not be class-leading, but it makes up for the middling monitor with great power levels, superb ergonomics and good battery life – and not forgetting the smart design. Asus:

Estos procesadores gráficos pueden mostrar únicamente juegos antiguos, fluidamente.  Juegos actuales pueden ser presentados con detalles sustancialmente reducidos.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GPU integrado (memoria compartida) em el chipset GM45 (Montevina). Gracias a dos shaders más y una frecuencia de núcleo más alta, es mucho más rápido que el antiguo GMA X3100. Aun así, no es recomendable para jugadores (juegos DirectX 10 no son fluidos y pueden ser jugados sólo con configuraciones muy bajas). El procesador de video integrado es capaz de ayudar a decodificar videos HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2), como para una reproducción fluida de Blu-Ray con CPUs lentos.

Estas tarjetas también deben ser capaces de aguantar todos los juegos actuales, pero  la mayoría de ellos en configuraciones de detalles medios y bajos y con bajas resoluciones. Juegos más antiguos, o menos exigentes todavía pueden ser jugados con buena calidad de gráficos.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M: Una GPU de gama media y la más veloz GeForce GT como parte de la serie 600M

Algunos juegos actuales no fastidiosos pueden ser jugados fluidamente con pequeños detalles.

Intel HD Graphics 4400: La GPU integrada ULV (GT2) con 20 EUs encontrada en ciertos modelos de CPU Haswell.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este es el sucesor Core Duo y el Core Solo con un pipeline más largo y con una velocidad entre 5-20% sin mayor consumo de energía. Adicional al diseño de Core Duo existe un cuarto decodificador, una unidad SSE ampliada y una unidad lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.

Sus características son: 2 núcleos (cores), una amplificación de comando de 64-bit EM64T y 2 o 4 MB L2 Cache y  291 millones de transistores, que son acabados en 65nm. Mas allá de esto, todos los tipos soportan técnicas "Execute Disable Bit",  SSSE3 (SSE4), Enhanced Speedstep,  LaGrande y la mayoría de técnicas de virtualizacion (VT) Vanderpool.

El Core 2 Duo para laptops es idéntico a los procesadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, pero los procesadores para notebooks trabajan con tensiones más bajas (0.95 a 1188 Volt) y un Frontside bus clock (1066 contra 667 MHz). El rendimiento de laptops cuena con una frecuencia de 20-25% más baja que PCs Desktop debido a una frecuencia más baja de Frontside bus y los discos duros más lentos.

SU9400: Procesador LV energéticamente eficiente basado en el núcleo Penryn 3M que presenta todas las funciones Penryn como Virtualization y Trusted Execution.

Intel Core i7:

3612QM: Un procesador quad-core basado en Ivy Bridge con frecuencia de 2,1 GHz con soporte para Turbo Boost hasta 3,1 GHz. Ofrece un GPU integrado HD Graphics 4000 funcionando a 650-1100 MHz con un controlador de memoria DDR3 de dos canales. La especialidad del i7-3612QM es el bajo TDP de 35 Watts comparado con los 45 Watts de los otros CPUs quad core Ivy Bridge (por ejemplo, 3610QM).

4510U: Un procesador dual-core ULV basado en Haswell con frecuencia de 2,0 GHz con Turbo Boost hasta 3,1 GHz. Ofrece una HD Graphics 4400 integrada y un controlador de memoria DDR3 de dos canales.
