It's so unusable that we're simply astounded it's still there - we complained about it when the original Mini 10 arrived, and never imagined it would be the one part of the chassis that didn't get updated. That's a shame, as the rest of the Mini 10 is rather alluring. Its design is eye-catching, the battery life outstanding, and the media accelerator makes a decent fist of playing HD content. If Dell had opted for the most uninteresting of touchpads, the Inspiron Mini 10 may have earned our recommendation. Instead, it goes down as one of the most frustrating netbooks we've had the displeasure of testing.

The new Dell Mini 10 is a bit thicker and heavier than many contemporary laptops. It measures about 10.5″ x 9.2″ x 1.4″ and weighs just over 3 pounds with a 6 cell battery. But I appreciate the way Dell has designed the laptop so that it looks no different with a 6 cell battery than with a lower capacity 3 cell battery. The shiny, but fingerprint-free lid is also a nice touch. Performance-wise, there’s no real reason to choose the Mini 10 over any other Atom Pine Trail netbook.

Now there’s an updated version in the form of the 10in Mini 10. With poor battery life and unimpressive performance the Dell Mini 10 does its job perfectly well but at the asking price is less than impressive. Although it’s nicely expandable, the basic Mini 10 is expensive for what it contains and the battery life is unimpressive.

It’s ultraportable and inexpensive with performance levels that are impressive by netbook standards (and even fairly impressive by regular standards), so people who use it for its intended purpose will find that it fulfills their needs and even goes beyond them. I wish the memory were upgradeable, and issues with the heat and trackpad can be minor annoyances, but, even though I’m still a Mac guy, I have found the Inspiron Mini to be an excellent tool for productivity.

The Inspiron Mini 10 is pretty much a mixed bag, and although it shows promise and offers a few nice features and design concepts, it has a few serious shortcomings as well. For some reason Dell chose to launch it with a 3-cell battery, which doesn't provide you with a lot of juice. Most vendors are slowly phasing out 3-cell units in favor of 6-cell or 4-cell batteries, even on entry level SKUs. Of course, you can get a 6-cell power pack for the Mini 10, but you're basically paying for something you are supposed to get straight out of the box, and that's something no consumer enjoys. It's biggest downside is the $399 price tag. In case you want a 6-cell battery and a Z530, it will cost you $100 extra. Fortunately, Dell has announced a stripped down Mini 10v SKU for $299, and that sounds like a pretty good deal.

Unlike the others that found their way to eBay, I’m certain that the 10v will have a long life in my household for years to come. El nuevo diseño y las diversas características como la pantalla de alta resolución, el chip descodificador Broadcom HD y la banda ancha móvil son razones atractivas para comprar la Inspiron Mini 10s (HD) de Dell. Difícilmente darás con una netbook más barata que ofrezca más características que este modelo. Por desgracia su experiencia de navegación y la duración de la pila se quedan por detrás de las de excelentes netbooks como la Mini 5102 de HP y la mini NB305-N410 de Toshiba, la Selección del Editor.

Su línea de productos incluye ordenadores de sobremesa, portátiles, sistemas de almacenamiento, monitores, servidores, impresoras, electrónica de consumo y periféricos. Dell ofrece portátiles adecuados para diversas aplicaciones, como portátiles profesionales, portátiles para juegos, ultraportátiles y estaciones de trabajo. Los portátiles profesionales de Dell de las series Latitude y Precision son una opción para usuarios profesionales y empresas.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 500: Chip gráfico integrado (en la placa) en los chipsets UL11L, US15L, y US15W con un núcleo licenciado PowerVR SGX. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 es un chip de video integrado (incorporado) en Mobile Intel 945GM chipset. Es una versión con frecuencia más rápida del GMA 900.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Tarjeta gráfica integrada (memoria compartida) de las CPUs Intel Atom N4xx. Minimamente más rápida que una GMA 950 y por tanto no adecuada para juegos 3D o videos HD (solo tiene aceleración MPEG2)

Intel Atom:
La gama Intel Atom es un microprocesador de 64 bits para portátiles, MID’s o UMPC’s baratos y pequeños. Lo especial de esta nueva arquitectura es la ejecución “in order” (en lugar de la usual y más rápida ejecución “out of order”). Por tanto, el número de transistores del Atom es mucho menor y por tanto más barato de producir.
Z530: Versión para ahorro energético del Atom N270 con soporte adicional para virtualización y tecnicas de ahorro de energía más eficientes. El rendimiento es igual al del N270 y por tanto solo es adecuado para tareas básicas.
N270: Procesador eficiente energeticamente, barato y lento de un solo nucleo para Netbooks. Debido a la ejecución in-order, el rendimiento por MHz es peor que el de los procesadores Core Solo o Celeron M.
N450: El CPU Intel Atom para Netbooks con controlador integrado de memoria y GPU GMA 3150. El rendimiento del sistema debe ser solamente mínimamente más veloz que la combinación anterior Atom N280 / GMA 950.
Z520: CPU de un solo núcleo energéticamente eficiente con un rendimiento muy bajo. Ofrece más recursos (ahorro de energía, VT-x) que los Atoms de la serie N.
