De darle la potencia se encargan su procesador Intel Core i9-13950HX junto a 32 GB de memoria DDR5 a 5.600 MHz y a la nueva tarjeta gráfica Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080, permitiendo un rendimiento sensacional para sacar el máximo partido a su pantalla. Eso sí, las temperaturas son tan elevadas como en todos los modelos de altas prestaciones, así como la sonoridad de su sistema Cooler Boost 5. Podemos encontrar a la venta el modelo aquí analizado por 4.199 euros y una versión vitaminada que cuenta con la RTX 4090 por 5.099 euros. Son precios realmente elevados para un portátil que tiene gran competencia en el mercado con similares prestaciones y menor precio.

The Raider GE78 is MSI’s more convincing gaming product of late and both looks and performs the part of a thoroughbred high-end gaming laptop. None of the typical MSI weaknesses such as poor battery life and suspect thermal management is in evidence. That makes the one serious blot on the GE78’s copybook – the absence of G-Sync and Advanced Optimus – all the more annoying. If those two features were present the 2023 Raider would be an unequivocal recommendation. Acer’s Predator Helios 16 is cheaper and offers a Mini LED option, while Medion’s Erazer Beast X40 offers strong competition and packs Advanced Optimus. The ROG Strix Scar 16 is perhaps the default choice if you’ve got £3,500 to splash on a gaming laptop but it is noisy under load. The Mini LED display is superb though. Not one of these machines is much less than excellent and all of them will provide a great gaming experience. It’s a testament to the MSI Raider’s quality that it can stand tall in such an illustrious company.

And then there’s the excellent performance in demanding loads and games, where this performed a little bit better than most of the other similar configurations we’ve reviewed (with some exceptions in CPU sustained loads). Overall, these add up and I think they affect the overall competitiveness of this series. In the end, though, you’ll be the judge of the overall worth of this series based on your needs and preferences, compared to the other options out there. But there are quite a few of those, including a handful of 18-inch laptops with a larger 18-inch display, arguably better cooling, lower prices, and still about the same size and weight as this 17-inch Raider. Well, this one does, and one of them is a Thunderbolt 4 connector. The absence of an SD card reader is disappointing, but not unexpected, given the history of Legion devices in recent years. All in all, the Legion Pro 7 (16″, 2023) is a really good gaming machine. As with every other laptop out there, it has its downsides, one of which is its price. However, it is probably the most down-to-earth-looking gaming notebook in this segment of the market.

We’re early into the 14th generation of Intel Core HX notebooks, but our benchmarks showed a clear delineation between 13th- and 14th-gen gaming notebooks, more than I expected. So far, we have two 14th-gen notebooks to compare between, the Asus ROG Strix and the MSI Raider GE78, and the latter is the clear winner. Add 32GB to it (and boy, I was tempted to ask for a full-fledged review unit, just to see what it could do) and it will shine. MSI’s 14th-gen GE78 HX 14VIG excels as a gaming laptop, with a number of admirable features that try hard to convince you to use it as an all-around machine. Gamers will care solely about the gaming performance, and the MSI Raider generally soars to the top of the heap. But I liked the Raider’s keyboard, even if the laptop’s size pushes it to the rear. A 1080p webcam? Not the best, but it’s a nice touch.

MSI Raider GE78HX 13VI-209UA is one of the most powerful gaming laptops currently on the market. Assembled from top components in MSI’s proprietary design. The notebook provides a high level of performance both in normal work tasks and in modern demanding games. In addition to high-performance components, the laptop has a good cooling system, cool gaming display and excellent sound. There are its own branded chips from the manufacturer in the form of MSI Center and True Colour. And for the implementation of backlighting and collaboration with SleelSeries a separate respect. From the disadvantages I can highlight only the package – the lack of an additional power supply, and then, for many, I think, this point is not critical, and it would be cool to add to the set of branded backpack for carrying. If you need a powerful gaming laptop, I highly recommend you to consider MSI Raider GE78HX 13VI-209UA as an option.

However, for this level of performance and equipment, you will have to pay, as always, with portability. An additional problem considering "payment" is also the direct meaning of this word, because the official price tag of a model with such a configuration will sincerely surprise many people. For such an amount, you can assemble a good desktop and buy a decent portable laptop separately. However, having the necessary budget and the need for a powerful laptop, the customer should most likely be satisfied with working with such a "beast".
