Xiaomi unveiled a host of new products this week, but the one that caught our eye was the Mi Mix Fold, Xiaomi's long awaited foldable. Instead of the reverse-folding prototype we got a peek of a few years ago, the Mi Mix Fold looks remarkably like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. It packs in Xiaomi's premium camera tech, with a 108mp main camera, and most notably, a "liquid lens" 8MP camera. Xiaomi is claiming this uses a fluid-filled lens to shift between a telephoto and macro shooter. Impressive if true, though we'll want to test it. The Mi Mix Fold is debuting at 9,999 yuan, around $1,500, a good deal cheaper than the folding options from other companies, though you may have trouble finding one in the USA.

Xiaomi usually offers close to excellent video recording experience on its flagship smartphones, and it's beyond us what happened for this Mix Fold 2. So, the Mix Fold 2 is a great foldable device and a good smartphone. We are sure it will find fans across China as it is a country where sometimes software means more than hardware, and MIUI has the upper hand. It is not the best foldable, that's for sure, but it is the thinnest one. And our verdict is quite simple - if you like it, you buy it as it's a worthy device. If its imperfections bother you - look elsewhere. But if you don't live in China, or nearby, we can't in good conscience recommend gray importing it - not like we did the Ultra models. Foldables break a lot more often than regular phones. And if this Mix Fold 2 does crack, you will end up with one fancy paperweight with nowhere to service it.

Finally, should you buy the Mix Fold 2? If this phone was sold globally and was available in your market, I’d say a definitive yes. But because most readers will have to import, this becomes much trickier. Importing will add at least a couple hundred dollars to the $1,300-ish retail price, and you won’t get any warranty, not to mention the game of chance you will play getting full network coverage in your region due to missing bands. In that situation, most buyers are better off getting the Z Fold 4 or hoping Xiaomi launches this globally later. With that said, however, there are phone enthusiasts who would import this in a heartbeat. A former colleague at XDA imported one. I know two people in Singapore who have. And I would import this too if Xiaomi hadn’t given me access to a review device. But we are a very niche group: foldable enthusiasts. Even if most of you reading this will not buy this device, it’s still great that the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 exists because it shows consumers what is possible. Maybe Samsung can get away with its thicker design for another year due to a lack of competition globally.

Wow. Xiaomi ha hecho un trabajo de primer nivel con el Fold 3. Tanto, que con gusto lo llevaría en mi bolsillo como móvil personal. El 80% del tiempo lo he usado como un móvil normal. No pesa demasiado, el tamaño es similar al de mi iPhone 14 Plus, y la pantalla externa tiene resolución y tamaño perfectos incluso para jugar. Cuando he querido leer un libro, navegar de forma más cómoda en Chrome, o tener más de una app abierta en simultáneo, no he tenido más que abrirlo para acceder a su formato tablet. Bueno como teléfono normal, bueno como teléfono de gran formato. El inconveniente es obvio: este teléfono no se vende en España y, por el momento, no hay esperanza de que los plegables tipo libro de Xiaomi aterricen en nuestro territorio. Malas noticias teniendo en cuenta que este MIX Fold 3 planta cara y supera en varios aspectos a algunos de sus rivales directos.

This material is a blend of ceramic fibre and aramid fibre and is lighter than glass, which contributes to the lightweight nature of the phone. Unfortunately, the Mix Fold 3 does not come with an IP rating for water resistance, unlike the Z Fold 5’s IPX8 rating that means it can be submerged. So there you have it, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. A worthy foldable phone to own, packed with features one would want. The biggest thing stopping us from recommending it outright is that the phone is only in sale in China for now, and there are no official plans to bring it to the Malaysian market. What a pity, as it is a great alternative to the competition here.

What’s also apparent to me is that compromises are not as explicit here. The camera system already feels more than competent. My only personal gripe would be the lack of IP rating — something that Xiaomi has not confirmed to us. Sure, the MIUI software build on this specific model is not great, but it’s designed for Chinese audiences, and a global MIUI ROM would undoubtedly iron out some admittedly minor complaints. As has been said about many China-only devices over the past few years, if no release is planned outside of the region, Samsung will remain steadfast at the top of the foldable sales charts for some time yet. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is here. It's slightly thinner and lighter than the Mix Fold 2, and gets two new zoom lenses: a 3.2X telephoto and 5X Periscope, both with OIS and Leica lenses. The main camera also got an upgrade to the Sony IMX800 with a f/1.8 aperture. There's also a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip here that's the same overclocked version as seen in Samsung's 2023 flagships.

What’s also apparent to me is that compromises are not as explicit here. The camera system already feels more than competent. My only personal gripe would be the lack of IP rating — something that Xiaomi has not confirmed to us. Sure, the MIUI software build on this specific model is not great, but it’s designed for Chinese audiences, and a global MIUI ROM would undoubtedly iron out some admittedly minor complaints. As has been said about many China-only devices over the past few years, if no release is planned outside of the region, Samsung will remain steadfast at the top of the foldable sales charts for some time yet. Xiaomi:

Estas tarjetas también deben ser capaces de aguantar todos los juegos actuales, pero  la mayoría de ellos en configuraciones de detalles medios y bajos y con bajas resoluciones. Juegos más antiguos, o menos exigentes todavía pueden ser jugados con buena calidad de gráficos.

Qualcomm Adreno 660:

Qualcomm Adreno 730:

Chip gráfico para smartphones y tabletas integrado en el SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm afirma que es un 30% más rápido que el Adreno 660 del SoC Snapdragon 888. Para Android debería ser una de las tarjetas gráficas más rápidas a finales de 2021.

Qualcomm Adreno 740:

Chip gráfico para smartphones y tabletas integrado en el SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 de Qualcomm. Qualcomm afirma que es un 25% más rápida que la Adreno 730 del Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 y las primeras pruebas de rendimiento muestran que la GPU puede superar a la iGPU Apple A16 (hasta ahora la GPU más rápida para smartphones).

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 888 5G:

SD 8+ Gen 1:

SoC de gama alta para smartphones presentado a finales de 2021 y fabricado en 4 nm en TSMC. Integra un "Prime Core" basado en una arquitectura ARM Cortex-X2 con una frecuencia de hasta 3,2 GHz. Otros tres núcleos de rendimiento se basan en el A710, pero con una frecuencia de hasta 2,5 GHz. Además, se han integrado cuatro núcleos de ahorro de energía basados en la arquitectura ARM Cortex-A510 que funcionan a 1,8 GHz. Además de los núcleos de procesamiento, el SoC integra un módem WiFi 6e, un DSP Hexagon (para la aceleración de IA) y un ISP Spectra. El controlador de memoria integrado admite una memoria rápida LPDDR5 de hasta 3.200 MHz. El 5G se incluye ahora en el chip con el módem Snapdragon X65. En comparación con la versión no plus, el 8+ Gen 1 ofrece un Prime Core a 200 MHz más de reloj y una GPU a un 10% más de reloj. Además, ahora se produce en TSMC y no en Samsung.

SD 8 Gen 2:

SoC de gama alta para smartphones que se presentó a finales de 2022 con un rápido núcleo principal basado en una arquitectura ARM Cortex-X3 que funciona hasta a 3,2 GHz. Otros dos núcleos de alto rendimiento se basan en el A715 y también solo admiten aplicaciones de 64 bits. Los otros dos núcleos A710 también admiten aplicaciones de 32 bits, al igual que los núcleos Cortex-A510 de bajo consumo. Además de los núcleos de procesador, el SoC incorpora un módem WiFi 7, un DSP Hexagon (para aceleración de IA) y un ISP Spectra. El controlador de memoria integrado admite memoria rápida LPDDR5x de hasta 4200 MHz. El chip incluye 5G con el módem Snapdragon X70.
