Procesador de 16 núcleos, con 32 hilos de proceso, una gráfica de alto rendimiento como es la RTX 4090 en uno de sus perfiles de energía más elevado, 175W, y otros componentes a la altura como la memoria y la unidad de almacenamiento. Un portátil cuidado, sin acabados excelentes, pero con lo mejorcito en hardware y con una pantalla muy adecuada y la altura de las necesidades. Con el nuevo procesador, que dobla la cache disponible, el procesador no tiene grandes mejoras en benchmarks sintéticos de CPU, la verdad, pero sí que mejora de forma sustancial en muchos juegos, sacando aún más partido de una gráfica que es sobresaliente.

El ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 17 2023 es uno de los equipos gaming mejor acabados que podemos encontrar en el mercado actualmente. Es un equipo contundente, con 3 Kg de peso y 17,3’’ de pantalla, pero viene con una configuración de hardware ultra gaming. La gráfica NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop de 16GB y TGP de 175W, funciona a dichos 175W sin problema alguno de refrigeración. La CPU, por su parte, al ser una AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX, no necesita “tirar” de tantos Vatios como los procesadores Intel Core i9-13900HX, por ejemplo, para rendir de forma equivalente. The upgradability is good – two SODIMMs for up to 64GB of DDR5-4800MHz and two M.2 slots compatible with Gen 4 SSDs. We just wanted to see faster memory here (at least the device has 1Rx8 sticks, which is fine) because the performance of the AMD CPUs can be seriously boosted with snappy RAM. Aside from that, even with not-so-fast memory, the CPU is still a beast. Interestingly, the NVMe gets hot (61°C) while benchmarking but there is no sign of throttling. However, the SSD thermals are normal in standard usage. The keyboard is great – it has a per-key RGB backlight and it’s comfortable for both typing and gaming (and it’s quiet). The touchpad is fast and smooth but it’s a bit noisy for work. The build quality is good with few exceptions here and there. The I/O didn’t offer even a single Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 connector but still, the selection is good with two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports and a 2.5G LAN. With that out of the way, we can conclude that the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 (2023) is a gaming powerhouse.

The ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D can run games even faster than MSI’s monstrous Titan GT77 and leaves other RTX 4090 machines we’ve tested, like the Medion Erazer Beast X40, in its dust. The outstanding performance does put into sharp relief the fact that the basic design of the ROG Strix Scar 17 is now getting rather long in the tooth and has been supplanted by the ROG Strix Scar 18 in the Asus ROG hierarchy. I’m sure there are good reasons why Asus has taken this route, but it still leaves the consumer paying top dollar for an old design of car, albeit one with a new engine.

The minute you start to care about other stuff (namely, battery life, portability, or any semblance of webcam quality), you’ll probably want to look elsewhere. El diseño de los ROG Strix Scar 17 G733P se siente realmente premium, con su tapa de aluminio y el tacto a la hora de manipularlo. Es un portatil gaming centrado en el juego, si bien echamos en falta pantallas OLED su IPS es realmente sorprendente con sus 240 Hz y una precisión del color excelente. He de decir que debe buscarse una solución a la expulsión de aire caliente sobre la pantalla, pues merma el resultado que puede darnos. Los componentes usados son de lo mejor del mercado, con una CPU que con 55W ya de por si domina al resto y que aun puede dar más de si con 25 W más. En cuanto a la GPU dedicada, que podemos decir, no existe en el mercado portátil algo más potente que la RTX 4090 Laptop de 175 W. Con un rendimiento excelente gracias a tecnicas como DLSS, que auguramos con su versión 3.5 aún mejores resultados, perfecta para lograr altas tasas en juegos competitivos.
