HP’s Omen line of laptops are known for their sheer speed and graphics firepower. The latest Omen 17 is no different in that regard, as it comes with a powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 GPU and an Intel Core i9-13900HX CPU. The refreshed core components from the new GPU (Ada Lovelace) and CPU generation (Raptor Lake) are the main differences to last year’s Omen 17. The casing remains largely unchanged, however. It also sits in a black chassis with a plastic underside and a lid adorned with the Omen logo and lettering. The angular design gives the impression of pure power. While this laptop has a lot to offer, there are a few unimpressive aspects to it. Fingerprints on the lid and wrist rest are a nuisance after a short time. The lid also wobbles when you change the viewing angle and the case has no ports on the back, making cable management difficult. That said, those are minor quibbles with an otherwise outstanding gaming laptop.

We like the HP OMEN 17 (17-db0000). It’s a big stealthy-looking gaming machine with capable cooling and enough performance for playing games with bumped visuals. While having fun with your favorite titles, you’ll notice that the fans aren’t aggressively tuned which isn’t the case with many other contenders of the OMEN 17. Also, the GPU and especially the CPU thermals during max loads are always under control. In this case, the keyboard becomes just a bit warm, not hot. Overall, that’s one of the few gaming devices on the market that offers good comfort without compromising performance. While the 1080p 144Hz screen (CMN1779) may not sound impressive on paper it has a lot of tricks up in its sleeve.

The HP Omen 17 is more than capable of playing AAA titles at high settings with a smooth refresh rate and practically no retained heat, thanks to an impressively effective thermal design. That said, this isn’t the laptop you should buy if high-quality, loud speakers or a satisfyingly clicky keyboard are important to you. The Alienware m16 R2 we reviewed, which also sports an RTX 4070 GPU, produced quite tinny sound, but its keyboard was a breath of fresh air. Its minor flaws and low battery life are easy to overlook if you’re the type of gamer who knows they’ll be connecting headphones, a mouse, and other peripherals for a better experience and won’t play unplugged because it often means sacrificing higher frame rates. If all you care about is overall performance and you’d prefer a gaming laptop with a minimalist look (and you don’t mind a plastic chassis), I’d say the HP Omen 17 is worth it.

Finalmente, el de diseño también nos parece de buen nivel, con un diseño de medidas ajustadas para su formato, al bajar el grosor del marco inferior en esta generación, y utilizar aluminio para las superficies de pantalla y teclado. El precio del OMEN 17 será de 1699€, cifra más ajustada que el resto de portátiles, con la particularidad de que la competencia prácticamente ya no tiene este formato de 17 pulgadas, al menos con Nvidia RTX 40, siendo, por tanto, una familia bastante única ahora mismo. Este modelo está disponible exclusivamente en HP Store y PCcomponentes. Su relación calidad – rendimiento – precio es muy buena, también su autonomía, así que el portátil nos ha convencido, por lo que consideramos que es una buena compra si las 17” es lo que buscas.

HP: Fundada en 1939, la empresa estadounidense es un importante fabricante de servidores e impresoras y una de las principales empresas de TI del mundo. Hasta 2015, la empresa se llamaba Hewlett-Packard Company. Tras una escisión, la división de informática pasó a llamarse HP Inc.

En 2023, HP tenía una cuota de mercado aproximada del 22% de las ventas mundiales de PC, lo que la situaba en el segundo puesto después de Lenovo.

Estas tarjetas de video deben ser capaces de aguantar juegos modernos (con algunas excepciones) con altas resoluciones y altos detalles.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU:

Intel Raptor Lake-HX:

i9-13900HX: CPU móvil basada en la serie Raptor Lake que ofrece 24 núcleos (8 de rendimiento, 16 de eficiencia) con un núcleo Boost de hasta 5,8 GHz para los núcleos P. Es similar al i9-13900K de sobremesa pero con velocidades de reloj y TDP reducidos.

AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c):

R7 8845HS: Un potente chip de la familia Hawk Point que vio la luz en H2 2023. Creemos que el 8845HS es un R7 7840HS disfrazado. El 8845HS cuenta con 8 núcleos (16 hilos gracias a la compatibilidad SMT) que funcionan a una velocidad de hasta 5,1 GHz; además de toda la potencia de la arquitectura Zen 4, el chip viene con la tecnología Ryzen AI de segunda generación que está llamada a hacer que la IA generativa sea más omnipresente que nunca. Por último, pero no por ello menos importante, la Radeon 780M hace las veces de GPU integrada.

R9 8945HS: Una potente APU de la familia Hawk Point. No se trata de un procesador para portátiles completamente nuevo, sino de un R9 7940HS rebautizado (los dos son idénticos en casi todos los aspectos). El 8945HS cuenta con 8 núcleos Zen 4 habilitados para SMT que funcionan entre 4,0 GHz y 5,2 GHz para un total de 16 hilos de procesamiento y también viene con la tecnología Ryzen AI de segunda generación que pretende eclipsar por completo las tecnologías DL Boost y GNA de Intel. En cuanto a los gráficos, incorpora la iGPU Radeon 780M de gama alta que hará que las sesiones de juego ocasionales sean mucho más agradables.

AMD :

Ryzen AI 7 350: Un procesador relativamente potente de la familia Strix Point que debutó en octubre de 2024. La APU de arquitectura híbrida cuenta con 8 núcleos de CPU (una mezcla de núcleos Zen 5 y Zen 5c) que funcionan hasta a 5,0 GHz, junto con el adaptador gráfico Radeon 880M y el motor neuronal XDNA 2 de 50 TOPS. El procesador seguro de AMD (que en pocas palabras es un coprocesador ARM integrado) está a bordo, así como algunas otras características de gama alta, como AMD-Vi. Otras características clave son PCIe 4, USB 4 y compatibilidad con RAM de hasta LPDDR5x-8000, incluida RAM ECC. El objetivo de potencia TDP a largo plazo puede alcanzar los 55 W.
