HP Spectre x360 13 con Sure View - Qué manera de arruinar un gran portátil

HP ha hecho un gran trabajo con el Spectre x360 13, pero le da un amplio margen a la pantalla Sure View de 1080p. Con pobres ángulos de visión y calidad de imagen incluso con Sure View apagado, no podemos entender por qué HP no ofrece una pantalla normal de 1080p en el Reino Unido.

Éramos grandes fans del último Spectre x360 13 cuando lo revisamos el año pasado. La edición de Ice Lake es ligera, bien construida y tiene una vida de batería decente. El panel AU Optronics AUO5E2D de nuestra unidad de revisión también se comportó bien, con la pantalla de 1080p que ofrece buenos ángulos de visión, cobertura del espacio de color y alto brillo máximo. HP llama a esto una pantalla BrightView y es uno de los dos paneles IPS de 1080p que la compañía ofrece en los Estados Unidos. HP también vende una opción 4K AMOLED, que es una actualización de 100 dólares de la pantalla de nivel básico.

Sin embargo, HP no vende un panel BrightView 1080p para el Spectre x360 en algunos mercados, como el Reino Unido. En su lugar, el único panel de 1080p que ofrece es el de Sure View, que actualmente está equipado en las siguientes SKU:

Así que pensamos en ver cómo funcionaba el panel de Sure View, especialmente después de nuestro tiempo el año pasado con un EliteBook x360 1030 G3 equipado con Sure View. Compramos dos unidades 13-aw0115na, que HP equipa con el Core i7-1065G7, 8 GB de RAM y un SSD de 512 GB. El 13-aw0115na es casi idéntico al Spectre x360 13-aw0013dx que revisamos en diciembre, salvo por el color del chasis, la pantalla y la falta de memoria Intel Optane. Como tal, sólo discutiremos nuestras impresiones de la pantalla Sure View en el Spectre x360 13.

En resumen, el panel de Sure View en el Spectre x360 arruina lo que de otra manera es un excelente portátil. A diferencia del EliteBook x360 1030 G3, el panel Sure View del Spectre x360 13 tiene un acabado brillante, pero eso está muy abajo en nuestra lista de agarres con el panel Sure View aquí.

Our units both have the InfoVision M133NVFD R2 (IVO8584), which is rated for 72% NTSC coverage and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. According to Laptop Media, the IVO8584 covers 91% of sRGB and has a peak brightness of 815 nits, which is still impressively bright. The additional light directing layer that HP includes on Sure View panels means that the display does not look much brighter than 400 nits.

Sure View is enabled by pressing F1, which HP designates as a "how to get help in windows 10" shortcut. Switching off Sure View does not entirely disable its effects though as the technology is hardware and software-based. In our experience, the Sure View panel has terrible viewing angles, even with the feature disabled. Viewing angles are akin to old TN panels, so it feels like Sure View is always enabled. it is impossible to show someone our display without turning it towards them, for example. This is also true if we are looking at the device at an off-angle.

Anecdotally, multiple people have complained that the display makes their eyes hurt after a few moments of looking at it. I do not think that this relates to PWM, but more to the huge variances in brightness relating to poor viewing angles. This is even true when looking square-on at the display.

Overall, we would recommend giving the Spectre x360 13 a miss in the UK unless you are willing to spend more on the 4K IPS or 4K OLED SKUs. The Sure View IPS panel simply makes too many compromises on image quality and viewing angles.
