Alienware ha encogido mucho el nuevo dispositivo comparado con los predecesores y ha aceptado a cambio unos ventiladores ligeramente más ruidosos. Por desgracia, el rendimiento sufre por un uso subóptimo del Turbo CPU, de una ralentización menor durante el test de estrés y de una ligera ralentización de la GPU bajo carga. A la hora de jugar, la pérdida de rendimiento es pequeña, pero dado que a los jugones les gusta la tecnología, pueden ver esto como una desventaja en comparación con el voluminoso Asus G751JY-T7009H.

Dicho eso, no hay mucho de qué quejarse en el Alienware 17 R2. La carcasa convence en todos los aspectos, pero nos habría gustado que fuera más fácil alcanzar la batería y los ventiladores. Nos gustó mucho el teclado, y el touchpad tampoco tiene de qué esconderse. Otros pros son el brillante display de fuerte contraste, el sistema de sonido y la duración relativamente larga de la batería. Por último, el fabricante también preinstaló varios programas especialmente pensados para los jugones, tales como Killer Network Manager, AlienFX y TactX. Éstos son en parte características únicas de Alienware.
