Review de la Tarjeta gráfica de escritorio MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio

¡Cuesta, pero es rápida! Tanto la GeForce RTX 2080 como la GeForce RTX 2070 tienen la misma cantidad de VRAM. Sin embargo, el RTX 2080 ofrece algo más de rendimiento que el RTX 2070. Hemos realizado un gran número de pruebas de rendimiento utilizando la GPU basada en Turing de MSI para evaluar su rendimiento. El MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio es la tercera GPU que hemos recibido del fabricante taiwanés MSI. Vamos a revisar a fondo esta tarjeta gráfica. El RTX 2080 de MSI tiene un diseño de placa personalizado y una solución de refrigeración patentada. La tarjeta de vídeo también cuenta con un TDP aumentado de 260 vatios, lo que le da un buen aumento en el rendimiento en comparación con el modelo de referencia.

La solución de refrigeración Tri-Frozr consiste en tres ventiladores axiales, que proporcionan un suministro constante de aire fresco a un disipador de calor masivo. Esta es la razón por la que la GPU requiere al menos 3 ranuras. Los tres ventiladores tienen un diseño axial que ayuda a acelerar el flujo de aire antes de que llegue al disipador térmico y los rodamientos de bolas de doble hilera aseguran que el sistema de enfriamiento dure mucho tiempo. La tarjeta de vídeo también viene con la iluminación Mystic RGB de MSI, que puede verse muy bien en el caso correcto.

El MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio tiene tres conectores DisplayPort 1.4, un puerto HDMI 2.0b y un puerto USB Type-C para dispositivos VR. La GPU requiere dos conectores de alimentación de 8 pines.

El banco de pruebas - Basado en el Ryzen 7 2700X

Nuestro banco de pruebas se basa en una plataforma AMD actual. El Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 Wi-Fi sirve como placa base. La CPU, conocida como AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, ofrece un gran rendimiento. El sistema es enfriado por un enfriador de agua todo en uno de Be Quiet (Silent Loop 280mm). 16 GB de 3400 MHz RAM provienen de G-Skill. El Acer Predator XB321HK no representa un cuello de botella, gracias a su resolución de 4K. Estamos muy agradecidos a AMD por habernos proporcionado el sistema antes mencionado.

Las velocidades del MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio

El MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio tiene el mismo reloj base (1365 MHz) que el modelo de referencia de Nvidia. Sin embargo, cuando se trata del reloj de empuje, hay alguna diferencia. La tarjeta gráfica de MSI tiene una frecuencia de aumento más alta, gracias a un TDP aumentado (hasta 260 vatios). El MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio viene con un reloj de aumento de 1830 MHz, mientras que el modelo de referencia tiene un reloj de aumento de 1515 MHz y un TDP de 215 vatios. El TDP máximo de la tarjeta Founders Edition de Nvidia es de 225 vatios y la frecuencia máxima de amplificación es de 1800 MHz. 

Al igual que el modelo de referencia, el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio tiene 8 GB de GDDR6 VRAM que se marca a una frecuencia efectiva de 14 GHz.

Al menos sobre el papel, el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio tiene mejor aspecto que la GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition. La Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 OC también está al mismo nivel que el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio.

Benchmarks sintéticos

Todos los modelos RTX 2080 que hemos probado tienen un rendimiento muy similar en las pruebas comparativas sintéticas. Aquí, la batalla entre MSI y Asus concluye sin que ninguna de las dos GPU sea una clara ganadora. En comparación con las GPU basadas en Pascal, la GeForce GTX 1080 Ti supera a la MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio por un pequeño margen. El recién lanzado AMD Radeon VII supera fácilmente a la mayoría de las GPUs de Nvidia.

Comparado con el MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G, el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio es un 20% más rápido. Observamos una diferencia de rendimiento similar entre el MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G y el MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G.

El MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio y el Asus ROG Strix RTX 2080 OC también se enfrentan en las pruebas de juego. Aquí, ambas GPUs ofrecen un rendimiento muy similar, con MSI venciendo ocasionalmente a Asus y viceversa. No hemos encontrado ningún problema a la hora de realizar los análisis comparativos. Casi todos los títulos se pueden jugar en UHD. En algunos títulos como Metro Exodus, Monsterhunter World y Kingdom Come Deliverance, las frecuencias de cuadro a veces caen por debajo de 40 FPS, lo que hace que estos títulos parezcan tartamudos. Sin embargo, incluso el Nvidia Titan RTX sólo puede alcanzar una frecuencia de imagen media de 49 FPS en Kingdom Come Deliverance, lo que no es una mejora radical. En términos absolutos, el Nvidia Titan RTX es un 25% más rápido que el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio. Sin embargo, la GPU Titan cuesta tres veces más que el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio.

En general, los puntos de referencia de los juegos se ven muy bien. No encontramos ninguna anomalía durante el proceso de evaluación comparativa.

Utilizamos el videojuego conocido como The Witcher 3 para examinar el buen funcionamiento de la tarjeta gráfica bajo carga. Hacemos el juego en ultra ajustes y registramos tanto la frecuencia de fotogramas como el tiempo de fotogramas. En comparación con el MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G, el rendimiento en tiempo de cuadro del MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio se ve algo peor. En general, hay algunas anomalías que tienen muy poco impacto en la experiencia de juego real. Una imagen muy similar surge cuando echamos un vistazo al rendimiento de la frecuencia de imagen. Las frecuencias de cuadro se mantienen en alrededor de 100 FPS la mayor parte del tiempo y no hay caídas considerables en el rendimiento de las que hablar. Por eso valoramos positivamente la solución de refrigeración con tres ventiladores.

Bajo carga, las emisiones se ven bastante mal, debido a un alto TDP máximo de 260 vatios. Cuando está inactivo, el sistema consume 88 vatios, lo que es normal cuando se compara con el MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G y el MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G. Durante la prueba de esfuerzo con FurMark, el consumo de energía aumenta hasta 402 vatios. Sin embargo, cuando elevamos el objetivo de potencia del 100% al 109%, el consumo medio de potencia alcanzó los 433 vatios, con un consumo máximo de 460 vatios. Cuando se juega, el sistema consume unos 405 vatios.

La tabla comparativa muestra que el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio es un motoazada. El MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G necesitaba una potencia considerablemente menor con el mismo banco de pruebas. Sin embargo, gracias a un rendimiento muy alto, el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio todavía puede describirse como energéticamente eficiente. Sólo el AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 y el Nvidia Titan RTX consumen más energía.

Durante el uso normal, no observamos ningún problema térmico (PT 100%). Las temperaturas alcanzaron un máximo de 69 °C (156.2 °F) durante nuestra prueba de esfuerzo. Cuando elevamos el límite de potencia al 109%, las temperaturas alcanzaron los 71 °C (159,8 °F). El MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio está lejos de alcanzar su límite de temperatura. Esto significa que la GPU no debe estrangularse debido al sobrecalentamiento. En general, el sistema de refrigeración Tri-Frozr funciona muy bien, por lo que la tarjeta gráfica no se sobrecalienta y no hace demasiado ruido. La GPU sólo produce un ligero zumbido. En comparación con el MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G, el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio es en realidad algo más silencioso, lo que se hace evidente una vez que se echa un vistazo a las velocidades de los ventiladores.

Overclocking - poco potencial

A diferencia del MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G, el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio tiene mucho menos potencial de overclocking. Sólo pudimos aumentar el reloj del núcleo en 90 MHz y la velocidad de la memoria en 900 MHz. El modelo pequeño (MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G) podría soportar sobrecargas mucho mayores. Mucho de esto puede explicarse por el hecho de que el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio utiliza VRAM de Micron, mientras que el MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G utiliza VRAM de Samsung, que ofrece algo más de espacio para el overclocking. Sin embargo, no hay garantías cuando se trata de overclocking porque nunca se sabe qué tipo de chip se va a obtener.

La gran solución de enfriamiento nos da una pista de que todavía hay un poco más de espacio para el overclocking. Dicho esto, el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio viene con un overclock de fábrica. Por eso tiene una ventaja sobre el modelo de referencia. El objetivo de potencia del MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio se puede aumentar en un 9%, lo que eleva el TDP máximo a 283 vatios.

Podemos ver los resultados del overclocking manual reflejados en los puntos de referencia. Sin embargo, no hay un aumento significativo en el rendimiento del que hablar. De todos modos, no recomendamos el overclocking de la tarjeta gráfica, ya que viene con un overclock de fábrica tal y como está. Además, es una GPU muy potente de la serie RTX 2080.

Actualmente, el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio se vende por 840 Euros ($946). Si pasas algún tiempo buscando en Internet, puedes encontrar GPUs RTX 2080 más baratas. Sin embargo, estas tarjetas gráficas no ofrecen el mismo nivel de rendimiento que el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio. La tarjeta de vídeo de MSI viene con un TDP aumentado (260 vatios), por lo que la GPU puede conseguir un reloj de aumento más alto de hasta 1860 MHz. Cuando se trata de VRAM, hay espacio para el debate, porque tanto el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio como el MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G tienen los mismos 8 GB de memoria de vídeo GDDR6 y la misma frecuencia de memoria efectiva de 14 GHz. Dicho esto, no encontramos ningún problema relacionado con la cantidad y la velocidad de la memoria de vídeo durante nuestra revisión.

El MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio cuenta con el sistema de refrigeración Tri-Frozr, que permanece silencioso incluso bajo carga. En total, hay tres ventiladores axiales (2x100 mm, 1x90 mm).

Cuando se compara directamente con el Asus ROG Strix RTX 2080 OC, ambas GPUs se encuentran en el mismo nivel. No hay un ganador claro en esta batalla de las dos tarjetas gráficas RTX 2080.

El MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio es lo suficientemente potente para ejecutar juegos modernos en 4K. El aumento del TDP y la buena solución de refrigeración ganan algunos puntos Brownie adicionales para la GPU y contribuyen a aumentar el rendimiento.

¿Quién debería recibir el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio? Esta pregunta no es fácil de responder. Esta GPU está pensada principalmente para los juegos de 4K y aquellos que actualmente juegan en 1080p o 1440p pueden hacerlo sin el MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio. Para tales jugadores algo como el MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8G o el MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G debería ser suficiente.
