CD Projekt Red executive promises long-term support for Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077's fate seemed somewhat uncertain after CD Projekt Red veteran Andrej Zawadzki announced his exit from the company some time ago. However, a company executive told Reuters in a statement that it is determined to fix the game so that it can sell 'for years to come'. While the recently launched Patch 1.2 may have addressed some of the issues plaguing the game, Cyberpunk 2077 still requires a lot of work to live up to the hype it generated before its launch.
CD Projekt Red's updated roadmap for Cyberpunk 2077 tells us that we could get some free DLC later this year, while the multiplayer mode has been pushed back to 2022. We could even see some patches and QoL improvements in between. Once the multiplayer mode is out and about, we're probably looking at some paid DLC and expansion packs like the ones we saw for The Witcher 3.
While CD Projekt Red's commitment towards Cyberpunk 2077 is formidable, it could affect the development of future projects. Little is known about what CDPR has in its pipeline. It could or could not be The Witcher 4, depending on who you ask. Balancing time and resources between the two will be tricky. Failure to do so will result in yet another spotty CDPR launch from which it might not be able to recover.
Then again, Cyberpunk 2077 isn't the only game that lived to live up to its advertised expectations. No Man's Sky's launch was arguably worse, but the developers won back fans' trust by constantly topping it up with fresh content. Even The Witcher 3's launch was less than ideal, so we know that CDPR is capable of redeeming itself.
