Review Lenovo Thinkpad W500 Notebook | Notebookcheck
Pure performance. Until now the Thinkpad T-Model from Lenovo, which was enhanced after the short ending -p, set the standard for professional users with high performance demands. After a complete overhaul of the Lenovo product lineup, coincident with the launch of the Intel Centrino 2, Lenovo is now starting a few new notebook series. Among them are the new mobile workstations with the labels W500 and W700, which are meant to replace the Thinkpad Txxp models.
Pure performance. Until now the Thinkpad T-Model from Lenovo, which was enhanced after the short ending -p, set the standard for professional users with high performance demands. After a complete overhaul of the Lenovo product lineup, coincident with the launch of the Intel Centrino 2, Lenovo is now starting a few new notebook series. Obviously you’ll have to weight the individual categories on your own (price is probably more important to you than power brick size) but it is very hard to declare one system the clear victor in this deathmatch. Each company clearly has a good idea what the other is up to and the EliteBook takes a lot of design cues from the ThinkPad, like the dual navigation, exceptional keyboard, oversize hinges, and the super clean interior (though the 8730w has predecessors at HP).

This laptop can easily substitute your desktop and its much easier to move around. You can't really travel with this thing but for a price around $3000 it might be a good idea to keep this puppy locked away safe at home anyway. The W700 is one heck of a powerhouse with a great selection of features. While it is heavy and large in size and will take a nice chunk out of your pockets, if you are looking for a top of the line computer for visual and graphic aid, this is the laptop for you. The 17 inch Lenovo w700 is a great machine and worth the money.

This means a spare-no-expense product, but the W700 isn’t for the general consumer, or even for most professionals. It is for a range of demanding users, from content creators to engineers who need serious power and occasional mobility. Even within the small subset of prospective buyers we can see segmentation as the need of someone buying a $3000 W700 will be somewhat different than the person buying (most likely expensing) a $6000 model, but the processor, graphics, and storage options make a versatile product. The W700 is a well-designed desktop replacement notebook; the W700ds adds nothing that I couldn't get in another, better form, for less money.

Sure, it will make life in Photoshop a little easier when you can drag your tools off to the side, but we’re not really sure if that additional convenience and capability comes anywhere near justifying the additional price, size, and weight. Exact pricing has not yet been set, but our configuration is valued at close to $4,600 without the secondary screen, and Lenovo said that the second screen will come with a $500 premium. You can bring the cost down by hundreds of dollars and still get the secondary display if you configure the system with a dual-core CPU, a slower graphics chip, and a single hard drive. So is a 10.6-inch screen worth an extra $500 when 19-inch external monitors can be had for $100? It is if you need to take that screen with you to a work site and you can’t pack an external monitor in a carton. As mobile components become less expensive, we expect the prices of high-performance notebooks like this one to come closer to those of similarly configured desktops. If you need that kind of mobile horsepower and versatility today, the W700ds is worth every penny.

I didn’t think the Lenovo ThinkPad W520 would be much of an improvement. It’s the same keyboard, chassis, screen, etc. as the ThinkPad W510. But the beauty is below the surface and in this case, the Sandy Bridge chipset offers much better performance while managing energy use much more efficiently. You’ll certainly want to watch for more scientific testing by the professional review blogs and organizations but it sure looks like a super machine for your consideration. I look forward to seeing how it fairs against the competition in the shootouts. Until then, buy with confidence. This is a sweet machine ready to do some hard work. Lenovo:
Lenovo ("Le" de leyenda inglesa, novo (latín) por nuevo) se fundó en 1984 como empresa china de comercio de ordenadores. En 2004 era el mayor fabricante de portátiles de China y, tras adquirir la división de PC de IBM en 2005, el cuarto del mundo. Además de ordenadores de sobremesa y portátiles, la empresa fabrica monitores, proyectores, servidores, etc., y está especializada en el desarrollo, fabricación y comercialización de electrónica de consumo, ordenadores personales, software, soluciones empresariales y servicios relacionados.
En 2016, la empresa ocupó el primer puesto mundial en ventas de ordenadores. Seguirá siéndolo en 2023, con cerca del 23% de cuota de mercado mundial. Las líneas de productos más importantes son Thinkpad, Legion e Ideapad.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este es el sucesor Core Duo y el Core Solo con un pipeline más largo y con una velocidad entre 5-20% sin mayor consumo de energía. Adicional al diseño de Core Duo existe un cuarto decodificador, una unidad SSE ampliada y una unidad lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.
Sus características son: 2 núcleos (cores), una amplificación de comando de 64-bit EM64T y 2 o 4 MB L2 Cache y 291 millones de transistores, que son acabados en 65nm. Mas allá de esto, todos los tipos soportan técnicas "Execute Disable Bit", SSSE3 (SSE4), Enhanced Speedstep, LaGrande y la mayoría de técnicas de virtualizacion (VT) Vanderpool.
El Core 2 Duo para laptops es idéntico a los procesadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, pero los procesadores para notebooks trabajan con tensiones más bajas (0.95 a 1188 Volt) y un Frontside bus clock (1066 contra 667 MHz). El rendimiento de laptops cuena con una frecuencia de 20-25% más baja que PCs Desktop debido a una frecuencia más baja de Frontside bus y los discos duros más lentos.
T9400: La T9400 es una rapida CPU de gama media para portatiles y es basicamente una CPU Core 2 Duo P9500 con un mayor TDP de 35 vatios.
Intel Core 2 Extreme:
QX9300: Costoso CPU Quad Core móvil con un multiplicador libre y un TDP de 45 Watt. Gracias al amplio cache de Nivel 2 y a los 2,5 GHz, el CPU ofrece un buen rendimiento para aplicaciones single y multithreaded.
Intel Core i7:
820QM: El Core i7-820QM es una CPU de cuatro nucleos para portatiles con velocidades entre 1.73-3.06 GHz gracias al Modo Turbo. Por tanto , el procesador combina las ventajas de una CPU rápida de un solo nucleo y las de CPUs quad-core lentas. La tecnologia HyperThreading permite el uso simultaneo de 8 hilos en paralelo.
920XM: Es la CPU Core i7 para portatiles más rapida de 2009 pero con un TDP de 55 watios demanda mucha energia. Debido al Modo Turbo, la CPU puede funcionar hasta 3.2 GHz. Debido a la etiqueta Extreme, el multiplicador no esta bloqueado y por tanto la CPU es facil de overclockear.
720QM: El Core i7-720QM es el Core i7 Quad Core más lento en 2009 y tiene velocidades entre 1.6 y 2.8 GHz (debido al modo Turbo). Por tanto, combina las ventajas de una CPU de cuatro nucleos lenta con las de un solo nucleo. Comparada con las rápidas CPUs Core i7, el 720QM solo presenta 6MB de cache de nivel 3.
620M: El Core i7-620M es la CPU Dual-Core más rápida para portatiles (en el momento de su presentación el el primer cuatrimestre de 2010). El 620M tiene una velocidad de reloj entre 2.66 y 3.33 debido al Modo Turbo y gracias a la técnica Hypertrheading 4 hilos se pueden ejecutar de forma simultanea. En el paquete, Intel tambien ha incluido un segundo nucleo con una GPU integrada y un controlador de memoria. Por tanto, el TDP de 35 vatios del paquete completo es muy bueno.
2820QM: Veloz procesador Quad-core móvil basado en la arquitectura Sandy Bridge con una tarjeta de video integrada y controlador de memoria DDR3 de dos canales.
