It is too bad that Toshiba has a less than stellar keyboard otherwise it would be a decent choice for those needing long running time with higher performance.

I have a hard time believing that most students would be interesting in buying this Toshiba for the full retail price of more than $1,000 when that same student could buy a brand new 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro for roughly the same price.

¿CULV? ¡No gracias! Actualmente, se puede observar una tendencia impávida hacia portátiles más pequeños. Mientras los equipos van perdiendo gramo a gramo, hasta llegar a netbooks, el rendimiento disminuye de igual manera – a pesar de que Nvidia dirige en la dirección opuesta con su plataforma Ion. All the plastics used in the shell are matte-finished and textured, except for the screen bezel, which is gloss black. The finish is fairly good for a machine in this price range. The U500 is a handsome machine, suitable for all uses and with a quality graphics card. It can run all recent games. Overall this is a good multimedia laptop, but unfortunately its somewhat low battery life and glossy LCD panel aren’t up to the quality level of the rest.

In use, however, it's ultimately let down by mediocre battery life and a slightly sub-par keyboard, but if you don't mind buying an extra battery then its performance and varied features still warrant it a place on your shortlist.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation es un conglomerado o grupo tecnológico japonés. La empresa se fundó en 1939 y en 1978 Toshiba se convirtió en el nombre oficial de la empresa. Los productos y servicios de la empresa incluyen sistemas de energía, infraestructuras industriales y sociales, ascensores y escaleras mecánicas, componentes electrónicos, semiconductores, discos duros, impresoras, baterías, iluminación, logística y tecnología de la información. Toshiba era uno de los mayores fabricantes de ordenadores personales, electrónica de consumo, electrodomésticos y equipos médicos.
Estos procesadores gráficos pueden mostrar únicamente juegos antiguos, fluidamente. Juegos actuales pueden ser presentados con detalles sustancialmente reducidos.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: El Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (en ocasiones llamado también GMA X4500 HD u otras combinaciones) es un adaptador gráfico integrado compatible con DirectX 10 en los chipset GM45, GE45 y GS45 de la plataforma Centrino 2 (Montevina). El chip no tiene memoria de video dedicada, pero toma memoria dinámicamente de la principal (hasta 384 MB).
La versión a 400 MHz de la 4500MHD encontrada en los chipsets GL40 y GS40, se llama GMA 4500M (sin el HD) y tiene un peor rendimiento en juegos 3D y descodificación de video.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570: GPU de clase media baja que presenta un bajo número de shaders y un bus de memoria de bits y una alta velocidad de reloj. Similar a la Radeon 4550. Soporta Avivo HD y DirectX 10.1.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: GPU integrado (memoria compartida) em el chipset GM45 (Montevina). Gracias a dos shaders más y una frecuencia de núcleo más alta, es mucho más rápido que el antiguo GMA X3100. Aun así, no es recomendable para jugadores (juegos DirectX 10 no son fluidos y pueden ser jugados sólo con configuraciones muy bajas). El procesador de video integrado es capaz de ayudar a decodificar videos HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2), como para una reproducción fluida de Blu-Ray con CPUs lentos.
NVIDIA GeForce G210M: La Nvidia GeForce GTS 210 M es un adaptador gráfico DirectX 10.1 para portátiles basado en el núcleo GT218. Como su predecesor, presenta 16 shaders pero la velocidad de reloj ha sido muy disminuida. Debido al proceso de 40 nm (comparado con el proceso de 55 nm de la G110M) el máximo consumo de corriente se mantiene igual.
El núcleo de la G210M es llamado internamente GT218 y según Nvidia esta basado en la arquitectura de escritorio actual de gama alta (gama GTX 200). Además, Nvidia ha mejorado la micro arquitectura para mayor ahorro de energía e incrementos de rendimiento. Por tanto, el rendimiento por unidad shade debería ser ligeramente mejor que la generación anterior.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Tarjeta gráfica integrada en las nuevas CPUs Arrandale (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Core). Dependiendo del modelo y de Turbo Boost, la GMA HD tiene una velocidad de reloj entre 166 y 766 MHz.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: La GeForce 310M es la sucesora de la GeForce G210M basada en el mismo chip con velocidades de reloj muy similares (velocidad de sombreado de 30MHz más para llegar a 1530MHz).

Intel Core 2 Duo: Este es el sucesor Core Duo y el Core Solo con un pipeline más largo y con una velocidad entre 5-20% sin mayor consumo de energía. Adicional al diseño de Core Duo existe un cuarto decodificador, una unidad SSE ampliada y una unidad lógica aritmética (ALU) adicional.
Sus características son: 2 núcleos (cores), una amplificación de comando de 64-bit EM64T y 2 o 4 MB L2 Cache y 291 millones de transistores, que son acabados en 65nm. Mas allá de esto, todos los tipos soportan técnicas "Execute Disable Bit", SSSE3 (SSE4), Enhanced Speedstep, LaGrande y la mayoría de técnicas de virtualizacion (VT) Vanderpool.
El Core 2 Duo para laptops es idéntico a los procesadores Core 2 Duo para desktops, pero los procesadores para notebooks trabajan con tensiones más bajas (0.95 a 1188 Volt) y un Frontside bus clock (1066 contra 667 MHz). El rendimiento de laptops cuena con una frecuencia de 20-25% más baja que PCs Desktop debido a una frecuencia más baja de Frontside bus y los discos duros más lentos.
T6500: CPU dual-core de nivel básico basado en Penryn con un pequeño cache de 2MB nivel 2 y FSB800. Similar al T6570, pero sin VT-x.
P8700: Procesador de gama media con 3 MB de cache de tercer nivel y un TDP de 25 vatios.
P7350: Procesador Core 2 Duo de nivel básico con Cache de 3 MB Nivel 2 y debido al TDP de 25 Watt también es adecuado para portátiles de 13 pulgadas.
T6600: Procesador dual core Core 2 Duo de nivel básico con un pequeño cache de 2MB nivel 2 y sin funciones de virtualización.
P7450: Procesador Core 2 Duo de nivel básico con Cache de 3 MB Nivel 2 y debido al TDP de 25 Watt también es adecuado para portátiles de 13 pulgadas.
Intel Core i3:
330M: La Core i3-330M es una 350M con menor velocidad de reloj y por tanto carece tambien de la característica Turbo Boost y la velocidad máxima de reloj es de 2.13 GHz. Gracias a Hyperthreading, se pueden procesar 4 hilos de forma simultanea. Se incluyen en el paquete una tarjeta gráfica integrada (GMA HD 3150) y un controlador de memoria DDR3.
Intel Core i5:
430M: El Core i5-430M es una CPU de doble nucleo que presenta solo 3 MB de cache de nivel 3 (comparado con el I7-640M) y con velocidades de reloj entre 2.26 y 2.53 GHz (Modo Turbo). Además en el 430M faltan VT-d trusted execution y AES. Gracias a Hyperthreading, se pueden procesar 4 hilos de forma simultanea. Se incluyen en el paquete una tarjeta gráfica integrada (Intel HD Graphics a 500-733 MHz) y controlador de memoria DDR3.
