The new wedge design makes it noticeably more sleek and streamlined than its predecessor too.

The netbook  market is saturated, with nearly every laptop maker offering its own troupe of ultra-portable machines. Toshiba's 10.1-inch NB305 is one of the better examples. It's available now for around £320. The first thing to note about the NB305 is that it's sleeker than its predecessor, the NB200, thanks to a smaller motherboard and Intel's diminutive Atom N450 processor. The Toshiba NB305 is a thoroughly respectable machine. Its performance is fairly typical for a netbook, but it offers long battery life, a good keyboard, and a robust and attractive design.

However, the Toshiba stands apart from other netbooks because of its stellar looks and overall finish. The NB305's contrasting mocha brown lid and silver/gray keyboard give it a premium look and in hand, the Toshiba just feels solidly built. There's minimal flex when you hold the machine from one of its edges, the LCD's hinges feel solid and offer decent resistance and both keyboard and trackpad are a pleasure to use. A great looking netbook but its performance won’t blow you away purely because it lacks sufficient RAM.

Toshiba's latest isn't the cheapest netbook available, but it is one of the most stylish, apart from deluxe beauties like the Nokia Booklet 3G, and it's much cheaper than that. It's decently powered, with exceptional battery life and a very comfortable-to-use keyboard -an aspect sometimes undervalued in a netbook until you spend your first day's frantic typing on it. Little extras like the hard drive protection and easy webcam program make it that bit more enticing, if the great looks didn't have you at hello. Excellent.

Comentario

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Tarjeta gráfica integrada (memoria compartida) de las CPUs Intel Atom N4xx. Minimamente más rápida que una GMA 950 y por tanto no adecuada para juegos 3D o videos HD (solo tiene aceleración MPEG2)

Muchos juegos son difícilmente ejecutables con estos adaptadores gráficos o se ejecutan de manera muy lenta.

Intel Atom:

La gama Intel Atom es un microprocesador de 64 bits para portátiles, MID’s o UMPC’s baratos y pequeños. Lo especial de esta nueva arquitectura es la ejecución “in order” (en lugar de la usual y más rápida ejecución “out of order”). Por tanto, el número de transistores del Atom es mucho menor y por tanto más barato de producir.

N450: El CPU Intel Atom para Netbooks con controlador integrado de memoria y GPU GMA 3150. El rendimiento del sistema debe ser solamente mínimamente más veloz que la combinación anterior Atom N280 / GMA 950.
