EN→ESTwenty years is a long time for any gadget to survive, let alone thrive. The MacBook Pro is an outlier in many ways. You can say that it has bucked the trend. It is an exception that continues to reign supreme, come what may. Superficially, the M5 MacBook Pro 14 is a complicated machine to categorise. For most people, the MacBook Air is the best value. It is lighter, cheaper, and fast enough. But for the prosumer — the hobbyist photographer, the code compiler, or the video editor on a budget — this Pro is the sweet spot. It gives you the best display Apple makes, the ports you need, and performance that rivals the flagships in almost every sense of the word without having to splurge Rs 2 lakhs and above. In other words, if the Air feels too light for your workload, but the top-tier Pros feel like overkill, this laptop is the perfect quiet powerhouse to settle on.

EN→ESThat’s really my final verdict on the M5 MacBook Pro. It’s a brilliant workstation laptop if you need a lot of power and battery life, and the fact that it’s wrapped in a compact, robust package that’s really great to use is just a bonus. It’s not the outright most powerful laptop you can get for this sort of money or the best for gaming, nor is it the lightest or most compact for travel. To be clear, you can buy better laptops that are better in each of those individual categories, and Windows laptops definitely offer better value for money if you need lots of storage and RAM. However, if you need one laptop to do everything and don’t mind paying a premium for better specifications, then the M5 MacBook Pro is absolutely the best there is. It’s the finest all-the-talents laptop in the world.

EN→ESThe MacBook Pro M5 introduces clear improvements in performance, particularly for users who work with on-device AI tools or GPU-driven workloads. These gains make the baseline model suitable for professionals who rely on consistent throughput and efficient processing. However, those who require higher memory capacity or who expect any shift in input design or authentication systems may find that the structural limitations remain. The device delivers improved processing power but does not change the broader experience established by earlier models. For users prioritising performance improvements, the M5 is a meaningful upgrade. For users waiting for design or feature changes, the next generation may offer more definition.

EN→ESI have really struggled to write this review. That is not because there are not enough new features in the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple’s own M5 silicon, but because MacBooks with M-series silicon have already pushed the envelope on performance so much that something getting faster or more efficient becomes tough to differentiate. That also means this MacBook Pro with M5 silicon comes in with so much expectation tied to it. On the design front, the 14-inch MacBook Pro looks exactly like the earlier generation, and there is nothing new to see here. It is sleek and stylish with a metal chassis and matte finish. But there is an upgrade in the new Liquid Retina XDR display with 1600-nit peak HDR brightness.

The M5 MacBook Pro delivers 20% faster CPU performance and 35% GPU gains over M4, crushing the $4,000 M1 Ultra Mac Studio while starting at just $1,600. This review benchmarks the M5 against M4 MacBook Air and M4 Mac mini across Geekbench 6, Cinebench, Death Stranding gaming, and AI workloads, revealing how Apple Silicon has achieved 240% performance gains since M1—dwarfing the Intel era's pathetic 75% improvement over five years. From the thermal throttling nightmares and butterfly keyboard failures of 2016-2019 MacBook Pros to today's predictable, reliable update cycle, the M5 proves boring consistency beats revolutionary chaos.

EN→ESOn battery life alone, the MacBook Pro is an office champion. But then, in that regard, so was the M4 model, and the HP OmniBook 5. What we're really looking at here is improvements in graphic performance and more AI capabilities. Which does beg the question, who is this 14in model for? Seems a bit too juiced for the average office bod. What's more, the M4 model of MacBook Air is significantly cheaper. However, just because it is a bit too similar to the M4 model doesn't make it a bad laptop. It is the opposite, a stupendously great one, with a beautiful, bright display, brilliant graphical performance, and a ridiculously good battery.

EN→ESThe MacBook Pro is the go-to laptop for creatives, and it remains that way in 2025. The M5 brings a little more performance than the M4, especially in its SSD, but otherwise the machine is largely unchanged from last year, to the extent of carrying what we might look at as last-gen technology in the form of Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6E.

EN→ESBut if time is on your side, the question to ask is what you would achieve by waiting. If you need more performance than the M5, then obviously, you’ll need to wait for the M5 Pro or M5 Max versions. Things are trickier for those cross-shopping between this and a MacBook Air. A MacBook Air with similar specs will probably cost around S$400 less, and it’s slightly more portable. However, the MacBook Pro counters with a superior display, better performance, longer battery life, and more ports. My recommendation to people has always been to get the MacBook Pro if your budget allows, because it’s a better machine, and also because the MacBook Air isn’t significantly more portable than the MacBook Pro. The Air is slimmer, but in terms of weight, the difference is less noticeable than you might think. In short, my view of the entry-level MacBook Pro hasn’t changed. I think it’s the MacBook most people should buy if they can afford it. And this new M5 chip has made it even better.

EN→ESThat is to say, when it comes down to it, the MacBook Pro has been near perfect since 2021, and this new model continues that trend while also showing just how effective Apple Silicon can be. Everything from playing Cyberpunk 2077 to editing photos is superb on this computer. While I wish it were a little lighter, I wouldn’t call the current model heavy. In the same way Apple is having a hard time getting people to upgrade from the M1 series, I think people who stick with an M5 will also be able to use their computers for years and years to come. But if hardware design matters more than performance per dollar, then I’d wait until 2026 to see if a new Pro is just around the corner.

EN→ESThe phrase “all-day battery life” used to be mere puffery, but more and more it’s becoming a reality. That’s more true for MacBooks than many other PCs you can buy today, though the new MacBook Pro with M5 chip isn’t suddenly doing better than the MacBook Pro with M4 chip. The older laptop promised a 24-hour battery life (based on video streaming tests). In real life, the MacBook Pro could make it a full 7 or 8 hours before it was begging for the nearest outlet. That remains true with the MacBook Pro with M5, though perhaps not as well when under load. When simply using it as a daily driver, doing basic browsing tasks, and running multiple Chrome windows plus Slack, I could easily make it through an entire workday and still have enough battery left over for watching some YouTube videos at home.

EN→ESApple may not have made a big deal about the M5 MacBook Pro, but the machine speaks for itself — and I, for one, am impressed. It’s fast, efficient and capable of handling demanding workloads that would have required a much larger desktop only a few years ago. It does so quietly and without sacrificing portability or battery life. The improvements may be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, but evolution, as Apple reminds us, still moves forward. Beyond that, Apple hardware has become genuinely capable of gaming, content creation and everything in between — and I’m glad to see all of that in one sleek, capable package.

EN→ESAs you can see, storage and memory upgrades are pricey. And if you choose to upgrade, you’ll find yourself close to the starting price of an M4 Pro (S$2,749), at which point you’ll start to wonder if you should hold out for the M5 Pro. And speaking of holding out, should you wait for the inevitable M5 MacBook Air? It goes without saying that if you need a laptop urgently, you shouldn’t wait. The 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro is fantastic, and you will be satisfied with it. EN→ESThe low-end MacBook Pro has always occupied an odd in-between place in Apple’s lineup, overlapping in a lot of places with the MacBook Air and without the benefit of the much-faster chips that the 15- and 16-inch MacBook Pros could fit. The M5 MacBook Pro carries on that complicated legacy, and even with the M5 there are still lots of people for whom one of the M4 MacBook Airs is just going to be a better fit. But it is a very nice laptop, and if your screen is the most important part of your laptop, this low-end Pro does make a decent case for itself. It’s frustrating that the matte display is a $150 upcharge, but it’s an option you can’t get on an Air, and the improved display panel and faster ProMotion refresh rate make scrolling and animations all look smoother and more fluid than they do on an Air’s screen.

EN→ESThe MacBook Pro M5 isn’t a major departure from what we’ve gotten before, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing considering it’s still a fantastic laptop. The M5-driven performance can handle heavy workloads and can run games (optimized for Apple silicon) fairly well. And if you need a laptop that can potentially endure for a couple of days before needing a recharge, this machine won’t disappoint. Those who own a MacBook Pro M4 don’t have to upgrade to this year’s model, since you still have most of the same features. However, if you have an older M-series Pro (or even an Intel one), then you won’t be disappointed with the new MacBook Pro M5. Even if it’s eventually outclassed by the inevitable M5 Pro and M5 Max models in terms of power, this M5 laptop will still be one of the finest around.

EN→ESThe Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch (M5, 2025) feels like a rather small update over last year’s M4 model, with the bulk of improvements focused on AI performance. Your interest in this product, then, could depend on how interested you are in using artificial intelligence-powered tools. However, while the Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch (M5, 2025) might not seem like an essential upgrade for people using M4 and M3 MacBooks, this remains a superb workstation laptop with a stunning screen, thin and light design, and excellent build quality. It would be nice to see Apple get a bit bolder with a design shake-up for future releases, especially when it comes to some of the older technology (Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E) that it still uses.

EN→ESIt wasn't the big redesign we were hoping for this time last year, when Apple rolled out its M4 models of the MacBook Pro. In fact, there wasn't a redesign at all. This generation of the 14-inch MacBook Pro is identical to the 2024 model (prices remain unchanged as well) with a single exception -- it incorporates the M5 processor, which debuted this fall. On one hand, my testing shows the chip's upgraded GPU architecture delivers big performance improvements over the M4 in the narrow areas where it applies, namely on-GPU processing for AI (notably image generation) and ray-traced graphics. Those go along with Apple's typical generation-over-generation performance improvements. So, as expected, one of the best-performing consumer CPUs just got better, bringing a top-performing laptop in its wake.

EN→ESIf you're looking for a powerful laptop that can handle most heavy-duty workloads, the MacBook Pro will certainly suit your needs. But the difficult choice now is deciding between this 14-inch M5 model, the existing M4 Pro and Max systems, or waiting a few months for the upcoming M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. If you're rendering video and 3D content all day, you're likely better off working with Pro and Max chips, but you'll have to wait several months to see the new M5 options. If you absolutely need a workhorse MacBook Pro today, you'll have to settle for the M4 Pro and M4 Max (which are still far faster than the base M5 chip). But for most creatives, the M5 MacBook Pro offers an impressive balance of power and portability.

But the real scene stealers are the massive gains (60% to 70%) in graphics performance, and the huge AI performance boost. And with features like MetalFX Frame Interpolation, we can finally start talking about serious gaming on the base MacBook Pro, pushing far beyond what we could expect from prior generations. EN→ESMuch as we anticipated, the 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 looks to be the fastest version yet of a notebook we’ve loved and recommended for years; however, you should really only consider it if you’re upgrading from a very old MacBook or are getting your first and don’t mind splurging for the best of the best. Folks coming from an MacBook Pro M1 or an Intel-based Mac will notice a huge difference in performance and will get to take advantage of a more modern MacBook Pro design with a much better port selection than before. And while this new MacBook Pro is far from cheap, it’s at least retaining the same starting price of $1,599 that we’ve seen over the past few years. Still, unless you use demanding AI tools, do a lot of taxing graphical work or want to really crank up the latest Mac games, you’ll likely be served just as well by the latest MacBook Air M4 that starts at a much more attainable $999.
