EN→ESThe iPad Air M4 is a seriously powerful tablet that combines a great screen with top performance. It strikes a nice balance between power and price that makes this an appealing option for anyone wanting a tablet capable of laptop tasks. While the iPad Pro is a considerable jump up in both screen and power, the Air does more than enough for the majority of users. Arguably the standard iPad and iPad mini would also be plenty for most users, but the Air offers the larger screens without increasing the weight. Apple is adamant that there is no canibalisation between the iPad and the MacBook, and while they do fulfil different tasks, I think some users will still be picking between the iPad Air and the MacBook Neo – especially as they are the same price. In many ways, the Neo has carved out its own market, but that also includes those who were looking to buy an iPad in place of a cheaper laptop. Using an iPad in place of a laptop still requires some compromise, not least dealing with the limitations of iPadOS for those tasks – though this has improved and I suspect it will further with iPadOS 27.

EN→ESDespite a couple of flaws, there's still plenty to love about the M4 iPad Air. It's got an upgraded M4 chip and a bump to 12GB of RAM, resulting in an incredibly fast tablet. If you're looking for something that can easily double as a laptop or replace your laptop altogether for everyday tasks, it's more than capable of that. That said, if you already have an M3 iPad Air, this upgrade isn't for you. But if you're coming from something older -- like the M1 iPad Air, an older iPad mini, or a base iPad -- there's a lot here to like. It's superfast, the display is gorgeous, and it keeps that thin, lightweight design that makes it so easy to carry around and slide into your backpack. With Apple upgrading the internals while keeping the price the same during an ongoing memory shortage, the M4 iPad is undoubtedly a solid deal, starting at $600, and is easy to recommend if you want a powerful, reliable everyday tablet.

EN→ESTime to put my cards on the table. Is the iPad Air the best iPad money can buy? Yes. And that means it finally takes the crown from the iPad mini. I still love Apple’s tiny tablet dearly, and use it every day in the studio. But the M4 iPad Air feels like peak every-person iPad. The mini is still there if you want the smaller form factor, and the entry-level iPad remains an absolute bargain for students and anyone who just needs an iPad, but the iPad Air sits perfectly in the middle. And that’s a really hard gap to fill. If you need the iPad Pro, you know you need the iPad Pro. It remains the best in the range, technically. The M4 iPad Air, though, is in a league of its own.

EN→ESThe 2026 iPad Air, powered by Apple's M4 chip and C1X modem, is an iterative upgrade to the company's midrange tablet that delivers a significant performance boost. Faster speeds mean smoother workflows, quicker Apple Intelligence, and rapid connections. I wish Apple had improved a few aspects of the hardware, such as adding Face ID and making the tablet waterproof, but these are minor considerations given the rest of the tablet's quality. While casual users can comfortably spend less on the standard iPad, the iPad Air provides the best balance of price and performance for students and creators, earning it our Editors' Choice award.

EN→ESIn the past, I’ve been pretty harsh about the iPad Air, saying that it’s priced too high, and that users would be better off with a basic iPad or the pricier, but considerably nicer, iPad Pro. But in the past year, and given the circumstances around the world, I’ve softened my stance. The basic iPad remains the choice for those on a budget, but it has its limitations and quirks. And while there’s no doubt the iPad Pro is the pinnacle of iPads, it is an extremely pricey proposition. The iPad Air is a happier middle ground.

EN→ESIf you’re coming from the 11-inch M1 iPad Air like I did, the decision largely comes down to one question: Do you want more screen? The M4 chip is genuinely better and future-proofs the device for several years of iPadOS updates, especially as Apple Intelligence gets bigger and better, demanding more resources.

EN→ESEven with incremental updates year over year, the iPad Air is still astonishing in 2026. It’s got computerlike speed in a delightfully lightweight design, all for about half the price of the iPad Pro, which is only marginally faster. If you find yourself reaching the limits of Apple’s basic iPad or iPad mini and don’t want to shell out nearly $999 for a Pro, the iPad Air M4 is easily the best tablet for you. That being said, this is very much the same iPad Air that’s been coming out for the past couple years. If you happen to find the iPad Air M3 on sale (it’s currently $100 off at most retailers as of this writing), you won’t be giving up a whole lot unless Wi-Fi 7 matters to you.

EN→ESI prefer smaller tablets. For one, they don’t take up the same space as my existing laptop in my backpack. Second, I take these devices out on a public commute and at a crowded bar table when I’m hosting a tabletop RPG session. I was already a proponent of the A17 Pro iPad mini for its excellent portability. With the cellular connectivity in tow and the easy app navigation of the latest software update, I don’t have any issues using the 11-inch M4 iPad Air as a backup computer in tight spaces. It’s the M4 iPad Air’s price that gives me pause. As always, Apple demands an arm, a leg, and maybe your firstborn child for any and all upgrades. And if you’re planning to move from an older iPad to the latest hotness, you likely won’t be taking your old Apple Pencil for the ride. The latest iPads only accept the Apple Pencil (USB-C) and the Apple Pencil Pro.

EN→ESUltimately, the changes between the M3 and M4 iPad Air are negligible. I can't imagine many people upgrading from one to the other. However, if you're an artist or creative professional in need of a new tablet, I think you'll be pleased with this $599 device. One last caveat: If you're a casual user just interested in browsing and streaming, stick with the base iPad with the A16 chip. The M-series iPads are, frankly, way overpowered for most users. The new iPad Air comes in 11 and 13-inch models, with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB versions. Prices start at $599 and $799, respectively — though you can already save up to $50 if you pre-order at Amazon.

EN→ESThe Apple iPad Air (2026) or iPad Air (M4) is the best version of the iPad Air that Apple has made. If you’re buying a new tablet and can stretch to the price, there’s very little reason to look elsewhere. The combination of the M4 chip, 12GB of memory, Wi-Fi 7, and iPadOS 26 makes it more future-proofed than any of its predecessors were at launch. If you already own an M3 iPad Air, you don’t need to upgrade. The improvements are there but unlikely to manifest as a noticeably different experience in daily use for most people.

EN→ESThe M4 iPad Air is a modest upgrade over last year’s model, but when you make one of the best tablets there is, and there’s no real challenger, then maybe each new year doesn’t need to see a completely new reinvention. If you have an older iPad — say, from the M1 generation or before — and you see its battery life taking a big hit, then you might want to consider an upgrade, though that model also supports iPadOS 26. The M4 Air also has a Center Stage camera, which the M1 series lacks. The question I suspect many will have is whether they should buy the iPad Air or spring for the Macbook Neo, which is $250 less when you factor in the cost of the Air’s keyboard.

EN→ESEven though this is another minor spec-based upgrade for Apple’s mid-range tablet, the iPad Air M4 still impressed me. If you’re happy with an M2 or M3 version, there’s little reason to upgrade – but for those with older iPads who want a newer machine that can handle some rather intensive tasks, this is a great choice for the price. This is a very fast tablet, with excellent performance, top-class connectivity and the 12GB memory should help it stay faster for longer. This is still the best iPad and the best tablet (for most people). It has a better screen, chipset, and accessory portfolio than the base iPad, while also offering many of the same features as the pricier Pro series.

EN→ESBecause honestly, the other accoutrements, from the higher storage space to cellular capacity, aren’t needed for her. Even in my case, I’m quite economical when it comes to managing downloads. Even on consoles, I’ve avoided ever using expanded storage options by simply deleting games when I’m done with them. And so, the base 128GB is more than enough for Mum (whose previous 2021 iPad Air sported half of that) and likely solid for me. For the purposes of this review, we have the 1TB model, which brings the 13-inch cost up to $1,809, but neither of us actually needs that. All of that is to say that consumers, both young and old, can get a ton out of the M4 iPad Air, even with the more entry-level options. With its robust specs and features, it works remarkably well for both productivity and entertainment, and it’s already become a mainstay at home.

EN→ESThe iPad Air with M4 isn't a reinvention of the tablet, but it meaningfully improves what was already one of Apple’s best devices. With the powerful M4 chip, 12GB of RAM, and improved connectivity, the new Air again blurs the line between this model and the iPad Pro while maintaining a much more approachable price.

The MacBook Neo was the star of yesterday's Apple event, and it has every right to be but it's been a big week for Apple. So as promised, we also went hands-on with every other device announced this week: iPhone 17e, iPad Air, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro with M5 Pro, MacBook Pro with M5 Max, and the new Studio Display Family.
