A Matter of Personal Preference

With a 6.78-inch display, the OnePlus 8 Pro is physically larger than the 6.55-inch OnePlus 8. However, there is more space within the bigger case of the Pro model for a battery capacity of 4510 mAh compared to the OnePlus 8's 4300 mAh. Oddly, the OnePlus 8 lasts two hours longer in our Wi-Fi test, part of which can likely be attributed to the smaller display.

Even though both smartphones are equipped with a 48-MP main camera, there are several smaller differences. On the one hand, the main sensor of the OnePlus 8 has a slightly smaller aperture (f/1.75 vs. f/1.78) and the resolution of the wide-angle optics is significantly lower than the resolution of the 48-MP ultra-wide-angle optics of the OnePlus 8 Pro. On the other hand, the latter also comes with telephoto and color filter optics, whereas the OnePlus 8 is equipped with a macro lens instead. The front cameras of the two smartphones are identical.

Since both phones offer a fantastic camera quality, the premium for the OnePlus 8 Pro is only worth it for users who value the larger display or those who are able to take advantage of additional features such as the color filter optics. Furthermore, the 90-Hz display contrasts the 120-Hz screen of the 8 Pro, although it is up to the user to decide to which degree an even smoother image is noticeable during daily use. Since the differences in terms of the camera quality are minor and the system performance of the OnePlus 8 is identical, prospective buyers can get a big discount on the price in exchange for very small compromises.
