El Geekom AS 5 en detalle

Caso

Como ya hemos mencionado, el Geekom AS 5 y el Asus ExpertCenter PN52 comparten la misma plataforma. Esto significa que estamos ante un diseño diferente al delGeekom Mini IT12. Las dimensiones del AS 5 han crecido algo en comparación con el otro dispositivo de la casa, aunque la huella del dispositivo sigue siendo pequeña. En cuanto al peso, con 724 gramos, nuestro modelo de prueba se sitúa en la parte media de la tabla. Los materiales son principalmente plástico y aluminio. Una vez más, esto nos recuerda al familiar diseño NUC visto en el Geekom Mini IT12. Básicamente, el concepto es bueno y excepcionalmente robusto. Desde un punto de vista subjetivo, con su chasis de aluminio, los dispositivos de Morefine dan la impresión de tener un toque más premium. No podemos quejarnos de la calidad de construcción. Todo encaja a la perfección y no pudimos encontrar ningún hueco en nuestro modelo de prueba.

Características

A pesar de su tamaño, el pequeño Geekom AS 5 ofrece muchas opciones de interfaz. Todos los puertos se encuentran en la parte delantera y trasera del dispositivo. Comunicación

Geekom ha equipado su AS 5 con un moderno módulo Wi-Fi 6E de MediaTek. La tarjeta M.2 intercambiable también puede manejar la veloz banda de 6 GHz, donde son posibles velocidades de transferencia de datos notablemente superiores a las de una conexión con su banda de frecuencia habitual de 5 GHz. En este aspecto, nuestro dispositivo de pruebas no sólo encabeza el pelotón de competidores, sino que los deja atrás. Las cosas no son tan halagüeñas en las pruebas con una conexión de 5 GHz, y nuestro Geekom AS 5 queda relegado a una posición baja, a mitad de la tabla, por detrás de gran parte de la competencia. A excepción delMinisforum Neptune Series NAD9la competencia está bastante agrupada. Como siempre, para esta prueba hemos utilizado nuestro router de pruebas, el Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000. Como alternativa, también es posible conectar el AS 5 a una red a través de un conector Ethernet. Con una velocidad de hasta 2,5 Gbit/s, es incluso más rápida que la conexión inalámbrica de 6 GHz.

Accesorios

El contenido de la caja del Geekom AS 5 incluye la fuente de alimentación de 120 vatios, así como la placa de montaje para colocar el dispositivo en un monitor (montaje VESA), un cable HDMI, una guía rápida y algunos tornillos.

Mantenimiento

El Geekom AS 5 se puede abrir a través de la base. Los cuatro tornillos forman parte del soporte y mantienen la base, junto con algunos puertos de comunicación en la parte superior de parte del chasis. Retirar la cubierta inferior no es difícil, aunque la almohadilla térmica del SSD ofrece cierta resistencia. Básicamente, acceder a los componentes integrados, como la RAM y el SSD, es pan comido. Sin embargo, quien desee inspeccionar la unidad de refrigeración tendrá que desmontar un poco más el dispositivo. Sin embargo, sólo debe proceder con precaución para evitar dañar los delicados cables de la antena Wi-Fi.

Rendimiento - Un AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX en el centro de la cuestión

Con el AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX-basado en Geekom AS 5, obtienes mucha potencia en el más pequeño de los espacios. Con 32 GB de RAM y un SSD de 1 TB, el resto de especificaciones también son algo de lo que estar orgulloso. Todo esto hace que el Geekom AS 5 esté perfectamente equipado para el uso diario en la oficina, e incluso tareas más exigentes como la edición de fotos y la edición sencilla de vídeo no son ningún obstáculo para este servidor informático.

Condiciones de la prueba

Todas las pruebas de rendimiento se realizaron utilizando el modo de máximo rendimiento. El rendimiento del SoC no se modificó en la BIOS y se dejó conforme a los ajustes de fábrica del fabricante.

Procesador

Con elAMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, el Geekom AS 5 ofrece un buen SoC con 8 núcleos y 16 hilos que, sin embargo, ya no pertenece a los chips más actuales puesto que AMD ya tiene a su sucesor, elRyzen 9 6900HX- un chip al que echaremos un vistazo en una de nuestras próximas pruebas.

Sin embargo, en las comparaciones actuales, nuestro dispositivo de pruebas lo hizo relativamente bien y le pisa los talones a la competencia equipada con SoCs más recientes. Geekom no controla el consumo de energía del AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, lo que significa que el SoC funciona a 54 vatios en modo turbo y a 35 vatios bajo carga continua, según afirma el fabricante. Uno de los puntos fuertes del SoC utilizado aquí es su rendimiento multihilo, aunque comparado con la competencia, el rendimiento mononúcleo baja un poco. Intel está jugando en otra liga aquí con sus actuales procesadores Raptor Lake P, como se ve, por ejemplo, con el Intel NUC 13 Pro. Incluso el Morefine M600, que ya está equipado con un AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, no puede hacer nada al respecto.

Sin embargo, el Geekom AS 5 puntúa asombrosamente bien cuando se trata de las pruebas AIDA64, con nuestro dispositivo de pruebas incluso liderando el camino y empujando al Morefine M600 al segundo puesto. Básicamente, vemos que los dispositivos basados en AMD tienen claras ventajas. Intel parece estar ligeramente en desventaja en este aspecto con el Intel NUC 13 Pro teniendo que lidiar con estar un 19 por ciento por detrás de su primo AMD.

Rendimiento del sistema

Las pruebas sintéticas de rendimiento del sistema son sólidas. En PCMark 10, nuestro Geekom AS 5 logró un resultado excelente, situándose en segundo lugar. Sin embargo, la tendencia observada en Crossmark y las pruebas de RAM no se mantuvo. En esta área, nuestro modelo de pruebas incluso descendió al último puesto, ya que los sistemas basados en Intel son ligeramente mejores para la prueba Crossmark. Al Geekom AS 5 le cuesta seguir el ritmo de los sistemas DDR5 en las pruebas de RAM porque sólo tiene DDR4. A pesar de esto, podemos decir con confianza que nada de esto se sentirá en el uso diario.

Latencias del CPD

Inicialmente, la interacción de los componentes integrados fue buena y no fue responsable de ninguna latencia alta en la reproducción de nuestro vídeo de prueba 4K. Respecto a la iGPU, observamos una carga relativamente baja de sólo el 10%. Las latencias sólo se dispararon tras lanzar Prime95 pero, a pesar de ello, nuestro dispositivo de pruebas logró el segundo puesto entre sus compañeros.

Almacenamiento masivo

Geekom ha equipado el AS 5 con un SSD NVMe Kingston de 1024 GB. El modelo instalado usa la interfaz NVMe y debería ofrecer las tasas de transferencia correspondientes. En términos de velocidad de lectura, observamos un rendimiento sólido, aunque las velocidades de escritura fueron abismales. Para descartar que esto sea un problema con el Geekom AS 5, también probamos el Kingston NV2 en otro mini-PC. Sin embargo, el rendimiento no fue significativamente mejor. A modo de comparación, también equipamos la Geekom AS 5 con nuestra Kingston KC3000. Esto dio como resultado tasas de transferencia considerablemente mejores y dejó en claro que el problema no radica en nuestro dispositivo de prueba, sino en la Kingston NV2.

En la prueba, los problemas de nuestro modelo de pruebas hicieron que tuviera que conformarse con el último puesto. Además, también hubo continuas caídas de rendimiento en la prueba de estrés. Aunque las superficies metálicas internas se utilizan para la refrigeración, no se puede evitar la pérdida de rendimiento asociada a los continuos accesos de lectura.

Con la AMD Radeon RX Vega 8, el SoC viene con una iGPU que nos ha acompañado durante muchos años. Por desgracia, también se puede observar entretanto porque, en las pruebas, la iGPU ya vieja es notablemente inferior a su sucesora. Sin embargo, todavía puede competir bien con una Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7. Esto significa que el Geekom AS 5 puede asegurarse un puesto en mitad de la tabla debido a los muchos sistemas Intel que hay en nuestra comparación.

Lamentablemente, el Geekom AS 5 carece de la opción Thunderbolt, lo que significa que el dispositivo no puede conectarse a una GPU externa para acelerar el rendimiento 3D.

Temperatura

En reposo, la carcasa del Geekom AS 5 se calienta un poco. Esto significa que no hay acumulación real de calor de la que hablar ya que el aire caliente toma la ruta más corta posible y se dirige hacia la parte trasera del dispositivo antes de ser expulsado.

En la prueba de estrés Prime95, el AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX sólo pudo alcanzar los 77,8 °C, lo que significa que el SoC aún tiene mucho espacio para respirar antes de alcanzar sus límites térmicos. Al poner simultáneamente la CPU y la iGPU bajo carga, sólo vimos temperaturas marginalmente bajas porque ambos componentes tienen que compartir el TDP combinado de hasta 54 vatios.

Consumo de energía

En lo que respecta a los requisitos energéticos, el Geekom AS 5 obtiene muy buenas puntuaciones. En reposo, medimos entre 8,6 y 9,6 vatios, aunque el consumo medio bajo carga se situó en torno a los 60 vatios. El máximo que medimos fue de 84 vatios, lo que significa que la fuente de alimentación de 120 vatios no tiene dificultades y también le quedan reservas de sobra para dos dispositivos de almacenamiento masivo adicionales.

El Geekom AS 5 es sin duda un mini PC pequeño, si no el más pequeño, muy potente y tiene mucho que ofrecer. La base proporcionada por elAMD Ryzen 9 5900HX es una buena elección y es suficiente para el uso diario de oficina. Puedes exigir incluso más del mini-PC porque, con 32 GB de RAM y un SSD de 1 TB, se han recortado pocas esquinas.

Teniendo en cuenta el tamaño compacto del dispositivo, la selección de puertos es muy generosa. El Geekom AS 5 incluye muchas interfaces USB. Incluso las configuraciones multimonitor no son un problema, ya que se pueden conectar hasta cuatro pantallas. En términos de rendimiento Wi-Fi, el dispositivo sólo es superior a la competencia cuando se trata de las bandas de 6 GHz en esta prueba. Si decides utilizar las frecuencias Wi-Fi de 5 GHz, estarás a la altura de la competencia. Hasta este punto, el Geekom AS 5 no pone realmente un pie en falso. La única pega es la ausencia de Thunderbolt.

El Geekom AS 5 es un buen mini PC con un veloz AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. Sin embargo, sin Thunderbolt no está del todo preparado para el futuro.

No vemos la cooperación con Asus de forma crítica, sino más bien como una ventaja. A 609 dólares, nuestra configuración de análisis Geekom tiene un precio perfecto y es más barato que el PC Asus. La elección del SSD es criticable, ya que no estuvo a la altura de lo que se espera de un SSD NVMe en nuestras pruebas. Otro punto criticable es el nivel de ruido bajo carga. El dispositivo sólo es realmente silencioso en reposo o bajo carga ligera. Debido a las temperaturas registradas en nuestra prueba de estrés, Geekom podría haber ajustado un poco mejor la curva del ventilador. Esto significa que queda en manos del usuario confiar en sus propias habilidades. Por suerte, la BIOS ofrece diversas opciones para contrarrestarlo.
