AMD A8-4555M

El AMD A8-4555M es un procesador móvil quad-core de ultra bajo voltaje (ULV) basado en la arquitectura Trinity. Presentado oficialmente en el cuarto trimestre de 2012, es el sucesor directo de la serie A Llano de APUs (Accelerated Processing Unit) . La unidad de procesamiento es producida en 32nm SOI e integra un CPU de 1,6 GHz (hasta 2,4 GHz con Turbo Core) con un GPU relativamente veloz Radeon HD 7600G junto con un controlador de memoria de dos canales, decodificadores y codificadores de video y un northbridge.

Los núcleos del CPU se basan en una arquitectura Bulldozer reformulada, llamada Piledriver. Aunque es comercializado como un procesador quad-core, el A8-4555M incluye apenas dos módulos con cuatro núcleos enteros y dos núcleos de punto flotante, en total. Como resultado, el CPU no es un verdadero procesador quad-core.

II) Cuando se lo compara con anteriores núcleos Bulldozer, AMD logró mejorar el rendimiento IPC (instrucciones per clock) de núcleos Trinity mientras permite frecuencias superiores. No obstante, cuando es comparado con su predecesor Llano, el rendimiento multithreaded del Trinity fue apenas ligeramente mejorado. El recurso Turbo Core 3.0 mejorado funciona bien, acelerando el rendimiento single threaded, aunque aún no esté en el mismo nivel del equivalente Turbo Boost de Intel. A pesar de todo, AMD también logró incluir otros recursos, tal como la extensión AVX (incluyendo FMA) y soporte para la codificación AES.

En términos de desempeño general bruto, el desempeño del A8-4555M está en algún lugar entre el Pentium ULV y el Core i3 de Intel. Debido a la frecuencia más baja, el A8-4555M es 15 - 20 % más lento que el A10-4655M (TDP de 25 W). A pesar de todo, el rendimiento de la CPU del procesador AMD es suficiente para todas las tareas de oficina del día a día, navegar por Internet e incluso para la edición liviana de video o juegos leves.

La APU integra una GPU compatible con DirectX 11 llamada Radeon HD 7600G.

El consumo de energía de la APU A8-4555M se clasifica con TDP de 19 Watts y es, por tanto, comparable con procesadores ULV de Intel. Consecuentemente, el A8-4555M es más adecuado para portátiles delgados y livianos.
