Intel Q9000

El Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 es un procesador quad core (con 4 nucleos) que ofrece solo 2.0 GHz de velocidad de reloj. La baja velocidad de reloj lleva a un mal rendimiento en aplicaciones sencillas o de dos hilos (como juegos de 2008 o más modernos).

El Intel Core 2 Quad está basado en dos 'dies' Penryn cada uno con 3MB de cache de nivel 2 y producidos ambos en 45 nm. El chip soporta la técnica de "Aceleración Dual Dinámica" para un overclockeado automático de los nucleos (de forma similar a Turbo Boost). Con esta característica, el Q9000 puede overclockear un nucleo, mientras que los otros están en modo reposo.

El rendimiento del Core 2 Quad Q9000 no es muy bueno para aplicaciones de un solo nucleo debido a la baja velocidad de reloj de 2.0 GHz. Por tanto la mayoria de los juegos en 2009 solo funcionaban tan rapido como en un Intel Core 2 Duo de nivel bajo (que es mucho más barato). SOlo algunas aplicaciones profesionales (como el renderizado) pueden rendir de forma notablemente mejor debido a los cuatro nucleos. Por tanto, el Q9000 solo es adecuado para un pequeño grupo de usuarios (todos los demás usuarios deberían elegir un Core 2 Duo a mayor velocidad por el mismo dinero).

El consumo de corriente del procesador Core Q9000 es relativamente alto (ya que consiste en dos 'dies' Core 2 Duo a 2 GHz). Debido al TDP de 45 vatios (entre 16.45 - 74.35 vatios) la CPU solo es adecuada para grandes portátiles con buenas soluciones de refrigeración.
