Intel 740QM

El Intel Core i7-740QM es un veloz CPU quad-core para portátiles. Comparado con el Core i7-720QM, el 740QM presenta un frecuencia más alta. Presenta 4 núcleos (CPU quad core) y Hyperthreading. Por lo tanto, los 8 threads pueden trabajar simultáneamente. Comparado con los más veloces CPUs móviles Core i7, el 740QM sólo presenta un cache de 6MB L3 (los más veloces 8 MB).

Gracias al Modo Turbo, el CPU puede funcionar con una frecuencia de hasta 2,93 GHz (sólo 1 núcleo) y, por lo tanto, es veloz para aplicaciones de un solo núcleo como juegos antiguos. Gracias a los 4 núcleos (y 8 threads), modernas aplicaciones multi-threaded también se benefician mucho de este CPU (aunque al usar todos los núcleos, la velocidad de frecuencia se mantiene baja).

La línea Core i7 7xx posee una controlador integrado de memoria para barras DDR3 (1066 o 1333). Por eso el rendimiento de la memoria es muy bueno (comparado con CPUs más antiguos con controladores externos de memoria). Aun así esto lleva a un TDP más elevado de todo el chip.

El consumo de energía de hasta 45 Watt (TDP) es bastante alta para un CPU de portátil y debido al Modo Turbo, el consumo de energía podría alcanzar estos valores altos. Por lo tanto, sólo portátiles grandes con buenas soluciones de enfriamiento pueden alojar a este CPU.
