Intel Core i5-8210Y

El Intel Core i5-8210Y es un SoC de doble núcleo muy eficiente para portátiles refrigerados (pasivamente) basado en la generación Amber Lake y fue anunciado el 30 de octubre de 2018 con el nuevo MacBook Air. El CPU consiste en dos núcleos de procesador con una frecuencia de 1,6 - 3,6 GHz y un TDP de 7 vatios. Gracias a Hyper Threading, el procesador puede ejecutar hasta cuatro hilos de forma simultánea. Los chips también incluyen la GPU Intel HD Graphics 617, un controlador de memoria de doble canal (DDR3L/LPDDR3) así como un de- y codificador de vídeo VP9 y H.265. En comparación con los predecesores de Kaby Lake-Y (por ejemplo, Core i7-7Y75), Amber Lake utiliza la misma arquitectura producida en el proceso mejorado FinFET de 14nm+ (no 14nm++) pero ofrece mayores velocidades de reloj con una mayor calificación TDP. El Core i5-8200Y es muy similar cuando está configurado a 7 Watt (cTDP up) y ofrece relojes Turbo aún más altos, pero una GPU ligeramente más lenta (-100 MHz).

Arquitectura

Intel básicamente usó la conocida microarquitectura de la generación Skylake / Kaby Lake, por lo que el rendimiento por MHz es idéntico.

Rendimiento

El rendimiento de la serie Y depende en gran medida de la solución de refrigeración del portátil / tableta y de la configuración del TDP para la carga sostenida. Por lo tanto, las diferencias entre un Core m3 y un i7 pueden ser bastante escasas, si las térmicas son muy limitadas. Sin embargo, las altas velocidades del reloj Turbo en Amber Lake deberían conducir a un muy buen rendimiento de un solo hilo para ráfagas cortas.

Gráficos

La GPU integrada Intel HD Graphics 617 tiene 24 unidades de ejecución (EUs) como la antigua HD Graphics 515 y funciona con relojes entre 300 y 1050 MHz en combinación con este procesador. El rendimiento depende en gran medida del límite TDP así como de la configuración de la memoria; con una rápida RAM LPDDR3-1866 en modo de doble canal, la GPU debe ser capaz a veces de competir con el HD Graphics 520, pero también puede ser mucho más lenta en otros escenarios. Los juegos modernos a partir de 2016 sólo funcionarán, si es que lo hacen, sin problemas en las configuraciones más bajas.

A diferencia de Skylake, Kaby Lake y Amber Lake ahora también soporta la decodificación por hardware para H.265/HEVC Main10 con una profundidad de color de 10 bits, así como el códec VP9 de Google.

Consumo de energía

El chip se fabrica en el proceso de 14 nm+ con transistores FinFET. El TDP típico para la serie Y de Amber Lake se especifica a 5 vatios, pero el i5-8210Y se especifica a 7 vatios (para el MacBook Air).
