Intel Core i7-2820QM
El Intel Core i7-2820QM es un veloz procesador quad core de alta capacidad para portátiles. El momento del anuncio (Ene. 2011) era el procesador de 45 Watt más veloz. Se basa en la arquitectura Sandy Bridge y ofrece Hyperthreading para controlar 8 threads simultáneamente (para un mejor uso del pipeline). Comparado con los anteriores quad-cores Clarksdale, el i7-2820QM ahora es producido por en 32nm y ofrece una tarjeta de video integrada y funciones AES. Comparado con el 2720QM de menos frecuencia, el 2820QM ofrece más cache de nivel 3 (8 vs. 6MB). Sandy Bridge es la sucesora evolutiva de la arquitectura Arrandale. Las mejoras más notables son las nuevas instrucciones AVX de 265Bit, el Turbo Boost mejorado y la integración de la tarjeta de video en el núcleo de 32nm del CPU. Además, el controlador de memoria integrado fue mejorado y soporta hasta 8 GB DDR3-1333. El i7-2820QM ofrece una tarjeta de video integrada (Intel HD Graphics 3000) la cual demostró ser claramente más veloz que la antigua Intel HD Graphics en los CPUs Arrandale y a la altura de tarjeta de video dedicada de nivel básico como la GeForce 310M. La HD Graphics 3000 también soporta Turbo Boost y funciona con una frecuencia entre 650 MHz y 1300 MHz. Como la tarjeta de video comparte el veloz cache de último nivel, el procesador es un poco más lento con GPU activo. El rendimiento del Core i7-2820QM es notablemente mejor (como en versiones Cinebench) que la antigua generación Core i7-940XM quad core. Por tanto, el rendimiento debe ser suficiente para modernos juegos 3D aplicaciones exigentes. Gracias al veloz Turbo Boost 2.0 hasta aplicaciones de un solo thread funcionan muy rápido. El TDP relativamente alto del 2820QM de 45 Watt permite el uso del quad core sólo en portátiles de 15" y superiores. Sin embargo, comparado con la anterior generación de quad-cores el TDP ha mejorado, ya que ahora está incluido el GPU.
