Intel 3612QM

El Intel Core i7-3612QM es un veloz procesador quad-core para portátiles, basado en la arquitectura Ivy Bridge. Es el procesador móvil más veloz clasificado con 35 Watts (en el momento del anuncio a mediados de 2012). Gracias al Hyperthreading, los cuatro núcleos pueden soportar hasta ocho threads en paralelo haciendo un mejor uso del CPU. Cada núcleo ofrece una velocidad base de 2,1 GHz, pero puede aumentar la frecuencia dinámicamente con Turbo Boost, hasta 2,8 GHz (para 4 núcleos activos), 3,0 GHz (para 2 núcleos activos) y 3,1 GHz (para 1 núcleo activo). Comparado con otros CPUs quad core, el 3612QM está especificado a un TDP de apenas 35 Watts (similar al de CPUs dual-core). La versión BGA (que está directamente soldada a la tarjeta madre) soporta virtualización VT-d, mientras que la versión rPGA, no. Ambas no soportan vPro, pero por otro lado, todos los recursos Ivy Bridge, como AES o VT-x, son utilizables.

Ivy Bridge es una matriz mejorada y encogida de la arquitectura Sandy Bridge con mejoras en el rendimiento del GPU y CPU. Los CPUs son producidos en 22nm (contra 32nm de los CPUs Sandy Bridge) y son los primeros en introducir transistores 3D para una mejor eficiencia energética al compararlo con procesadores Sandy Bridge con frecuencias similares. Otros nuevos recursos son el PCI Express 3.0 integrado y soporte para DDR3(L)-1600.

El rendimiento del Core i7-3612QM debe ser ligeramente superior que el de un procesador Sandy Bridge con frecuencia similar gracias a pequeñas alteraciones estructurales.
Como resultado, el rendimiento general debe ser similar al del Core i7-2820QM Sandy Bridge. Aunque el 3612QM tenga un número de modelo más alto que el 3610QM, él ofrece frecuencias inferiores e, por tanto, se desempeña peor. No obstante, el 3610QM está especificado con un TDP muy superior de 45 Watts.

La Intel HD Graphics 4000 integrada ofrece 16 Unidades de Ejecución (EUs) a una frecuencia de 350 MHz hasta 1050 MHz con Turbo Boost, ofreciendo un rendimiento comparable con el de una AMD Radeon HD 6620G.

Con un TDP de apenas 35 Watts, el Core i7-3612QM es el primer CPU quad-core de Intel que está especificado en el nivel de los CPUs móviles dual-core. Por tanto, hasta los portátiles más pequeños pueden utilizar el Core i7.
