Qualcomm SD 8cx

El Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G Compute Platform (o SD8cx Gen2, SC8180XP) es un SoC basado en ARM para portátiles Windows. Integra una parte de CPU similar a la del Snapdragon 855 (mismos núcleos pero sin la función Prime Core) y está fabricado en 7nm en Samsung. Los 4 núcleos Kryo 495 Gold se basan en la arquitectura ARM Cortex-A76 (para mejorar el rendimiento) y se mueven a 3,15 GHz bajo carga. Los 4 núcleos Kryo 495 Silver son pequeños núcleos ARM Cortex-A55 para la eficiencia energética y van a 1,8 GHz bajo carga (probablemente).

En comparación con su predecesor, el Snapdragon 8cx, el Gen 2 ofrece mayores velocidades de reloj y un módem 5G integrado (X55 con soporte Sub-6 GHz y mmWave). El Wi-Fi también ha sido mejorado a Wi-Fi 6

Según Qualcomm, el rendimiento del procesador debería ser similar al de un Intel Core i5 de 8ª generación de la serie U (por ejemplo, i5-8250U). Sin embargo, esto es solo el caso de las aplicaciones nativas de Windows compiladas en ARM64, que no son tantas (a mediados de 2019). Las aplicaciones y juegos de 32 bits para AMD/Intel se ejecutan en una emulación bastante lenta y las aplicaciones de 64 bits no se inician en absoluto (pero un emulador debería llegar a Windows en 2021).

La tarjeta gráfica integrada Adreno 680 también podría ser un poco más rápida.

El chip es muy eficiente desde el punto de vista energético, ya que se produce en TSMC en el moderno proceso 7. Por lo tanto, los portátiles que utilicen el Snapdragon 8cx pueden refrigerarse de forma pasiva (sin ventilador) y no deberían estrangularse bajo carga constante.
