No sorprende que el Core i9-7900X sea el procesador de sobremesa más rápido que hemos probado hasta la fecha. Ofrece un rendimiento hasta la fecha sin igual en las pruebas sintéticas y los juegos. La variabilidad de frame rate es llamativamente elevada, empero. El elevado rendimiento tiene el coste de problemas térmicos y elevado consumo de energía. La eficiencia al menos es aceptable. Sería presuntuoso llamarlo "rey de la colina". Sin embargo, el Core i9-7900X parece un poco un contraataque nacido del peligro y de un enorme esfuerzo.

Un usuario no debería tener un motivo de peso para comprar el procesador Skylake-X de  1000 Euros, desde el Ryzen 7 1800X y para los que tengan un presupuesto más ajustado que prefieren Intel, hasta cierto punto los Core i7-7740X son productos que aceleran más que adecuadamente todos los programas y videojuegos. El Ryzen 7 1800X en particular también lo hace bien en escenarios de aplicaciones complejas gracias a sus 16 hilos. Por ello, es nuestra recomendación actual para usuarios que necesiten el mayor rendimiento posible dentro de un nivel razonable.     

Por último, Intel no apuntó a los usuarios domésticos (ni a los gamers), sino a los usuarios profesionales con su procesador HEDT. Por ello, el Ryzen 7 1800X en realidad pertenece a una categoría diferente. No obstante, puede defenderse de forma excelente con su relación precio-rendimiento. Por ejemplo, el Core i9-7900X rinde un 30% mejor que el Ryzen costando el doble.

Por ello, una comparación entre Skylake-X y AMD Threadripper puede resultar excitante. Citando el vídeo público de AMD, que compara el rendimiento Cinebench de Threadripper 1920X y 1950X con el de Core i9-7900, concedemos un avance de rendimiento relativamente elevado a attest Threadripper. Lo que es más, las CPUs deberían sufrir menos problemas térmicos debido a la soldadura y a su mayor tamaño.
