El AMD Ryzen 7 7840U es un rápido procesador para portátiles de gama alta de la serie Phoenix y el modelo más rápido de la serie U. Ofrece 8 núcleos (octa core) basados en la arquitectura Zen 4 que soporta hyperthreading (16 hilos). El reloj de los núcleos va desde los 3,3 (base) hasta los 5,1 GHz (single core boost). El procesador incluye 8 MB de caché L2 y 16 MB de caché L3.
El rendimiento del R7 7840U es, dependiendo de la carga de trabajo, sólo ligeramente inferior al del Ryzen 7 7840HS (mayor velocidad de reloj base y TDP). En comparación con la generación anterior Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U el 7840U es claramente más rápido gracias a la arquitectura Zen 4 y a las mayores velocidades de reloj.
La serie Phoenix utiliza un único diseño monolítico (a diferencia del diseño de chiplet de la serie 7045HX) y se fabrica en el moderno proceso de 4 nm de TSMC. El TDP puede configurarse entre 15 y 30 vatios (28 vatios por defecto).
