AMD Radeon R9 290X

La AMD Radeon R9 290X es una tarjeta de video de gama alta de una sola GPU para PCs desktop, que fue presentada en octubre de 2013. Se basa en la GPU "Hawaii" y es producida en 28 nanómetros. La tarjeta ofrece 2816 unidades shader e una interfaz de memoria de 512-bits (4 GB GDDR5, 320 GB/s a 5000 MHz).
El chip Hawaii se basa en una versión un poco mejorada de la arquitectura GCN. Entre otras cosas, el front-end ha sido duplicado y optimizado, el tamaño y la velocidad del cache L2 cache aumentó y la interfaz de memoria se amplió. Además, la R9 290X ofrece más shaders (2816), TMUs (176) y ROPs (64) que el anterior modelo top Radeon HD 7970. Además del mayor rendimiento, la 290X soporta nuevas características como DirectX 11.2
Dependiendo del juego de las configuraciones, el rendimiento de la Radeon R9 290X es similar al de la Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan. Por lo tanto, incluso las GPUs móviles más veloces como la GeForce GTX 780M son superadas por cerca de 50 por ciento. Juegos exigentes como Metro: Last Light pueden ser jugados con fluidez con 2560 x 1600 pixeles y configuraciones al máximo.
La R9 290X soporta recursos bien conocidos como Eyefinity, pero también algunas innovaciones como True Audio y un nuevo modo turbo. Dependiendo del consumo de energía y temperatura, el núcleo puede ser acelerado hasta 1000 MHz. Sin embargo, no hay una frecuencia base oficial y respectivamente un límite inferior.
Gracias a los ajustes dinámicos de la frecuencia y a la tecnología Zero Core, la R9 290X es muy energéticamente eficiente durante el modo inactivo. Bajo carga, la tarjeta tiene un consumo de energía típico de 250 watts.
